Starting this November, Manila’s top seven chefs will work hand-in-hand to make Christmas extra special for the children of Virlanie Foundation.

Dine to Smile Brighten Smiles campaign is joined by Chef Markus of CAV, Chef Cyrille of Cicou, Chef Suzette of La Cocina de Tita Moning, Chef Florabel of Crisostomo, Felix, Florabel, Chef Sonja of Cupcakes by Sonja, Chef Jessie of Enchanté, and Chef Colin of Sala, Sala Bistro and People’s Palace.

Brighten Smiles is the Christmas campaign of the year-long Dine to Smile project of Virlanie Foundation. The campaign aims to inform people about the street children under Virlanie Foundation’s care and how they can help these children have better lives.

Says Chef Suzette Montinola of La Cocina de Tita Moning, “I find the problem of street children in our country to be a very serious one.  It seems so wide and it often feels difficult to be able to come up with a solution to help others than just giving them something while they beg on the streets. I have heard many good things about Virlanie and feel that this is an organized and beneficial way of doing our part.”

Different Recipes, One Delicious Goal

Chef Sonja of Cupcakes by Sonja, says she joined the campaign to help improve the lives of street children. “Children cannot always help themselves. Through Virlanie, they are given the chance to improve the quality of their life and their future,” expresses Chef Sonja.

A percentage of the sales from the restaurants will be donated to Virlanie. Special recipes were also set aside for the foundation:

• Peanut Butter-Nutella cupcakes from Sonja’s Cupcakes will be on sale only from November till December.
• One of the 26 souffles of Chef Jessie at Enchanté will have a percentage of their sale for Virlanie
• La Cocina de Tita Moning and CAV both have special menu for the Brighten Smiles campaign

Billy Crawford is Virlanie’s ambassador of goodwill. He said, “This Christmas campaign gives restaurants and diners an opportunity to join our mission. Brighten Smiles this Christmas season by dining in our restaurant partners and continue to give back the smiles to street children!”  He is scheduled to visit the restaurants in the coming weeks.

The Christmas Dine to Smile campaign will run from November to December 2010.

Grab your running shoes and hydration packs, put on your running gear, pack that stroller and strap your babies and prepare to tackle the paved streets of Bonifacion Global City for this once a year fun running event.

Now, if only more women, especially moms like me who are battling those excess poundage do walk/run more often and have diets that work, we can be fit and fab at the same time without tucking in the tummies during photo opps

I first thought why we were invited to such an event would be to present to us the different services that the clinics offer.

And I was right when Dr. Hayden Kho Jr talked about how the clinic began with its owner’s dreams, the stellar, Dr.Vicki Belo. He presented before and after photos, statistics and the usual line up of their services, focusing on the 80% non-invasive treatments that they have.

But then, when Dr. Vicki Belo put in an appearance, she also talked about how she was inspired to put up such kind of clinics and how the clinics have expanded over time.

She also discussed about the different products they offer at affordable prices. They have soaps and facial wash. I am not sure if they have pimple cream for sale.

Then when she started talking about giving back to others, I was surprised. I didn’t know that the purpose of having the bloggers invited was to spread information about this said foundation, named after her parents, Ike and Nena Belo.

There were questions all around. It was obvious that they are still organizing the details and procedures about how to go with this foundation. This foundation was launched when the clinics celebrated 18 years in the business. Click here and here to read about the launch.

This foundation will try to reach out to those in need of medical attention like the victims who had burns, surgery for children with cleft palate and giving of scholarships to those who are financially challenged.

Of course, the topic about the children with cleft palate perked up my interest though I have not worked with them but the speech-language pathologists I work with have worked with them.

I just hope that the BMG would be able to iron out the details so that they can start their screening procedures as soon as possible.
