No SPEED Limit yearly benefit run is happening on January 29, 2012. This run is sponsored by the Ateneo SPecial Education Society or Ateneo SPEED.

There are several categories to choose from: 3k, 5k, 10k and 15k. The route will be inside and outside Ateneo Campus.

This run is for the benefit of teacher development of Batino Elementary School, a public special education institution in Quezon City.

Gift Shops

The MIL wants to set up a gift shop in the small store she has in her home down south. We have been looking for ideas that will help her conceptualize what she really wants to do.

Gift shops are wonderful, especially those that have hard-to-find items. Personally, I like browsing items in gifts shops, especially those that are daintily designed.

Shopping is slowly getting revolutionized due to the presence of online sites. The comforts of doing your shopping through online means is not something everyone can do though.

I think the ladies do this online shopping more than the guys. Not all guys can get their love ones gifts and buy her valentines gifts online though the number of them are starting to get the hang of it. For guys who are not really fond of going to the malls to shop, this is definitely welcome.

Meanwhile, I hope the MIL will decide on what she wants so I can go with her, if she asks me to, when she shops for what she wants to sell

On Online Giveaways

I have a Cisco Linksys E4200 router giveaway contest here. Should I get the most number of respondents for the survey questions, I will raffle off that PhP9,000 worth router. I will also get to win a gadget when that happens, so woot!

On the other hand…

A “lucky” reader also gets the chance to win a gift pack from Johnson’s Baby World of Firsts here by just writing a caption referring to the first photo in the post.

So many contest to join online and I’m sure there are a lot of happy winners out there and that includes me, yey!

Giveaways have included mobile phones, laptops, hewlett packard toner cartridges, food, gift certificates, beauty products and even webhosting packages.

In fact, there was that “heated” talk a while back if a certain government agency should ask bloggers to pay for a business permit of something like it when they hold online contests and host giveaways even if respondents did not purchase anything to qualify. I won’t get into that since I rarely host giveaways.

These online contests range from high priced prizes to fab and fun ones. There are of course the issues about “professional online contest joiners”. Hmmmm… intriguing so I will not delve into that.

Anyway…

Joining contests online is fun, especially if the mechanics are quite easy and there’s no need to sweat the small stuff. Wala namang mawawala so why not join these contest, right?

For me, it feels sad if official FB or Twitter accounts of products and services host online contest where they require for people to like their page only for these same people to unlike after the contest because they didn’t win. In fact, some people would even write trash talk online in these pages. Now, that’s something of a dilemma because if these comments are deleted, they’d get even more pissed.

Social media pages of products and services should be “liked” because the consumer genuinely likes what they offer and not because they are giving away something. I for one will not join a contest to “like” a page for the sake of qualifying to join if I don’t particularly patronize the company’s products and services.

Unless they give away something that I would really not think twice about liking their page, that is another story Bumigay din, LOL.

November 6, 2011 Millennium Run for Women’s Health

The Millennium Run for Women’s Health is happening on November 6, 2011 at the McKinley Park.

Bravehearts and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) will be having Millenium Run for Women’s Health, a fundraising event to that aims to increase awareness on women’s health issues. The registration fees Millenium Run for Women’s Health will help fund the many women’s health projects of POGS. Pregnancy-related deaths, breast cancer and cervical cancer issues are where these pledges will go to.

In the Philippines, over 4,500 Filipinas die of childbirth, around 8,000 die from breast cancer while around 4,380 die from cervical cancer. These numbers are higher compared to other countries in our region.

Among the many causes that doctors see are poverty, lack of awareness about maternal health and lack of support from the government.

The last part being my opinion, so yes, I say YES TO RH BILL.

The Millennium Run for Women’s Health supports the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals (MDG) which aims to lower mortality rates by the year 2015. POGS targets to improve maternal health in the Philippines.

ADF + Enderun World Class Culinary Program

Schools offering Culinary Courses abound these days like mushrooms sprouting here and there but there is one among the few prestigious ones that stands out: Enderun.

For hobbyists and those who want to further hone their culinary expertise, Enderun is offering the following for you:

Alain Ducasse Foundation ADF + Enderun 15 month program at the Enderun Culinary Center
Three-month Pastry Arts Certificate

In 2007, ADF+Enderun is an academic partnership between Enderun Colleges in the Philippines and Alain Ducasse Foundation. Alain Ducasse is a modern French chef who had a hand in running three-srat rating restaurants in three cities: Le Louis XV in Monte Carlo, Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenee in Paris and Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in London. Alain Ducasse Foundation was established to combine culinary methods, training and consultancy services.

ADF+Enderun has a philosophy that consists of theory demonstration and practice. The school has international standards in terms of having culinary teaching facilities: hot kitchen laboratories, pastry kitchen laboratory, preparation kitchen and a culinary amphitheater.

Enderun culinary amphitheater where some classes are held. There are two monitors with different videos featuring the cooking done in front.

Workstations-to-students have two students work in a workstation with eight workstation per class.

This is the Restaurant 101 where the students “work” in a real-setting without having to go elsewhere.

Students have internships in various Alain Ducasse restaurants and at the Alain Ducasse Formation training centers in France.

Applications are open for November 2011 intake.

3-Month Pastry Arts Certificate

The 3-month Pastry Arts Certificate program provides training in pastry, baking and related specializations in Culinary Arts. Terminologies, basic principles, technical and elaborate processes will be tackled along with learning to master recipes of French and international confectionery and bakery. Aesthetics visual balance and an understanding of taste and texture combinations will also be included in the program.
