The North Face Thrill of the Trail NUVALI

Since this is an event happening on Valentine’s Day, Thrill of the Trail NUVALI decided to add twist to the fun of doing trail running! What is it? There is an 11k Couples category where the couples participating in the trail run need to cross the finish line together while holding each other’s hand. No gender restrictions for the running couples.

Sweeeet! Talk about HHWW (holding hands while walking or in this case, while finishing a trail run).

This trail run seems so much more fun than doing a run on paved road.

Now this got me reminiscing the good old days :D

When I was younger, I’d join friends from church for long walks along unpaved, tree-lined streets with uphills and downhills roads to be able to go to the beach. We could have easily taken the tricycle but the thrill of walking to the beach and back along these (non)roads were definitely more fun than the other alternative.

We’d talk about stories of old, about “Hukbo” people lurking behind the trees, waiting for their Japanese enemies as we walk. Yes, we’d let our imaginations run wild. We’d stop by and gather flowers to take home. We’d chase butterflies and catch dragonflies too! We’d rest only when we feel our legs can’t take a step anymore.

I’m wishing my children would be would be able to do these things if not now, then maybe in the ear future. Too bad those trails I trekked before became a major highway. Sigh.

So I am just glad that trail running is gaining popularity here in the country because it makes people more appreciative of the beauty of nature. They also develop a respect for nature too.

The Thrill of the Trail trail running series is also being used by enthusiasts of trail running and endurance running in preparation for The North Face 100 Trail Running Ultra Marathon. This is the 1st and only trail running marathon series in the Asia Pacific. Five countries are currently active here: Australia, China, the Philippines, Japan and Taiwan.
