Shelved under Health, My Thoughts, Parenting

Discipline is the key, that is what people say when it comes to a lot of things like sleeping habits and homeschooling and most specially with weight management.

There’s this lady I know who was chubby as a child and everyone thought she was cute and healthy. That was, until she grew up and stayed chubby and was not cute anymore and definitely not healthy.

Perhaps the help from the best diet pills could “save” her from the problems that she encounters on a day to day basis had it been her weight was not as such or maybe its a bit late to lose the weight. Or perhaps discipline should have been imposed more especially with the kind of food being consumed early on while she was growing up

Older people scuff at parents whose children are not chubby and I know about it because I have heard these remarks were made referring to my children. I don’t know why but our cultural references suggests that chubby children are healthier than those who are not.

To this belief that chubby children are healthier than those who are not, I disagree

And to those who believe that because a child is fat, s/he does not need to take supplements, I disagree too

What about you?

the book im reading right now says that eating habits are established at the age of 3. we’ve always been careful on what we give to our kids, esp louna who loves to eat. i’ve got a cousin who had been “forced” to eat at an early age, probably because as you said, in our culture, chubby kids are cute.. when she reached adolescence, my auntie “was forcing” her to eat less but her system was used to digesting in bigger quantity, it became uncontrollable.. she’s still chubby up to these days and i’m sure my auntie felt guilty about it.

It is amazing how living here in the U.S. where obesity, diabetes and hypertension is a problem not only in adults but also in children can quickly change that perception. I have a friend whose little boy is the same age as Evan but more solid in body type is a bit defensive in saying that her son is not chubby, which he isn’t. But it illustrates how when a child even hints at being “big” is already a concern, not so much for appearance sake but more for health.

oh, I know about chubby children. I was definitely chubby as a child and my own kids are on the chubby side. Not that I’m being defensive, but our stock are really big boned and I can truly vouch for that. On my part, I was a bit worried that my kids were on the unhealthy/chubby side but according to their doctor, their just as big boned as I expected. Chubby or not, being healthy should go beyond the flab or the lack of it. People should stop making stereotypes..period.

[...] It is time we take care of our selves more by doing a lifestyle check and trying healthy options rather than settling for mediocre system of care. We should also start teaching this to our children while they are still young. [...]

[...] more thing: “Fat/chubby children are healthy” belief should more likely sound like “fat children are more susceptible to health [...]
