When I was younger (well, I am still young), summer means summer camp, woohoo!

Well, not the usual summer camp where the children learn new skills although ours was like that too. We slept in tent, we ate together, we went hiking and swimming in the beach and we learned new things about Jesus.

It was mostly learning new songs, making improvised performances like skits and poems.

Our camping site was hot then for there were a few trees to seek shade. Even if it was a few meters from the beach (the South China Sea) and winds are aplenty, these can be very hot.

With summer presently making its presence felt, my eldest daughter is graduating from 7th grade a few days from now.

She asked me the other day what I am going to give her as a graduation gift. I said I will still think about it.

A while ago, I told my hubby that daughter asked me about it and he said he was also asked the same question! :D

If we have unlimited funds, then she can have Vegas vacations or maybe a Disneyland trip, where ever she wants to go.

But alas, limited funds would not permit us to give these trips to her, perhaps when the right time comes, she will experience these trips with the family.

Maybe if she prays and work harder, she can cross the seas and have a vacation in one of the exciting places to visit down South :) Maybe.

SPACE is the theme for Photo Hunter this week.

Living in the city, wide open space is a welcome treat for us (my other PH entry).

We all need space, that is certain.

Even the children that I work with, we teach them about personal space, about putting a fair distance between them and the person(s) they are with as well as physical space between them and others who might take advantage of them.

Personal space gives us room to breathe and to assess the situation we are currently in.

But if space is lacking like the photo below and there is barely an inch to maneuver,

I can’t imagine how boxed in the man feels and I hope those who ride on motorcycles would be careful because the incidence of accidents involving motorcycles is alarming, especially here in Asia.

This road is a part of my commute when I go to another workplace where I work part-time (thank Heavens!) and where travel time is sometimes more than two hours going to work and back.

Its the time of the year when finals test (well, at least in this corner of the world) are given and even if parents are excitedly looking forward to summer vacation (minus the heat) to take a rest from waking up and bringing their children to and from school, final tests are actually dreaded time

It is best to prepare ahead before time runs out and the test schedules are staring at you right at your doorstep:

  1. PLAN YOUR STUDY TIME by starting to review bits and pieces a few weeks before the test schedule
  2. For the older students (and moms of the younger ones) ORGANIZING the notes before review wold help a lot
  3. SUMMARIZE. your notes for easy studying
  4. No need to memorize everything as long as the concepts are understood
  5. Try different types of ways to review, not just by reading the notes like games for smaller children, reviewing concepts inserted in day-to-day conversations (Science concepts as well as Social Studies concepts would be beneficial with this kind of review)..
  6. Prepare a MOCK TEST using different types of tests like multiple choice, fill in the blanks, definition of terms, identification of concepts.

There, these are just some tips on how to review for a test and I wish those who will take the test the best :)

Some schools, particularly the Catholic-run schools prohibit their students to wear jewelry in school. This is especially true with trinkets that are made of gold or silver. A simple watch would do for this is a necessity and not much of a luxury.

For children with developmental disabilities, it is also important that if they have to wear jewelry, they should know how to take care of these valuable things because small things like pencils get lost or are gotten from them, what more with these things with more monetary value.

I remember an older brother of a student who used to wear a Swiss wristwatch to school and to think he was only in high school then looks a bit too impressive for me. But as a parent and a teacher, there are doubts and “what ifs” just in case this expensive watch gets lost or he gets bullied and has to give up the watch?
