The theme for Photo Hunt this Saturday is HANDS and here is another entry for the theme hands.

This morning (I am writing this as of 8:31pm) my two younger home schooling children had their Graduation ceremonies (for my Preparatory level youngest daughter) and Moving Up Day (for my only son who is moving to grade three next school year).

To this I say: My husband and I (well, its more I than we) HAVE A HAND in our children’s education because we chose to home school them than send them to a school. It is an unconventional way of educating one’s child/ren in this country because it is a relatively new concept here.

Anyway, above is my youngest daughter doing her reading and writing work with another child who is also the same age as herself, during one of their study periods together.

I bring my children with me to work and they get to interact with the children I work with.

I was once a tutor and I teach children how to write. It’s rewarding when they learn to write with your guidance. Great theme this week

How clever of you to home school your children. Does the government or another authority check the education level of the kids you teach?

Have a nice weekend!

I’ve tried the home schooling thing and just can’t seem to keep my kids on track. Then again, neither can their teachers so I might try again.

You are doing a good job–home influence is important to a child’s development. One of my daughters homeschools in conjunction with a cooperative school.

Yes Carin, in fact, the children had an Achievement test given to them two weeks ago by the Dept of Education.

We are also affiliated with an existing school. Our curriculum follows what the law requires of school children :)

We have eight subjects like every one else, plus a lot of monthly activities with other children enrolled in the program :D

Hi Julie!
I have sooooo much respect for parents who homeschooled their kids. I too and my kids would like to give it a try. I am torn between The Master’s Academy (TMA) and Catholic Filipino Academy (CFA). I am a Catholic and would surely prefer CFA. The only thing that is holding me back is TMA is the pioneer homeschool in the Philippines and they give seminars to help first-time parents learn the ropes against CFA’s 2 years homeschooling esxperience. CFA is still in the period of discovery to which I am hesitant because I do not want to risk my kids future in my hands since I am not an educator to start with. May I have your insight? More power and God Bless!

Teacher Julie, your kids are blessed to have a loving mom-teacher to homeschool them. My kids have grown up well so I’m trying to lend a hand in educating my siblings’ kids and even kids of other parents. BTW, Aleli is graduating this April:)
