“It is hot, I want to go swimming! It is hot, I want to go swimming!”

That is probably a chant that almost everyone who lives in this side of the planet seems to be saying.

The heat IS oppressive, yes, and aside from air conditioned malls rooms or eating ice cream, heading off to the nearest (body of) water is one of the most satisfying things to do.

So what are some of the things that need to be done in dealing with the heat?

The children were excited to celebrate Earth Hour. My eldest daughter decided to just go to sleep before Earth Hour even began.

Before the hour was up, we were slowly putting off things that are using electricity: pc, television, lights in the kitchen, charging electronic devices and others.

Before the hour was up, all the lights were turned off, except that one at the side of the house. Fans were turned on though for it was a hot and humid night and we don’t want to risk an asthma attack. We stayed in the living room and spent the Earth Hour there. The two younger children were on a mat on the floor playing with my mobile phone while I was on the sofa. There was only one burning candle, the one on the dining room, which stayed burning after we had our candle light dinner.

We had fun playing shadows on the wall, lighted by a candle. We listened to the songs being played on the mobile phone. We had fun making faces using the flashlight. Not only had Earth Hour aimed to accomplish something for global warming, it also fostered family bonding to families who observed the special time.

Did you observe Earth Hour? continue reading this entry »

The theme for Photo Hunt this Saturday is HANDS and here is another entry for the theme hands.

This morning (I am writing this as of 8:31pm) my two younger home schooling children had their Graduation ceremonies (for my Preparatory level youngest daughter) and Moving Up Day (for my only son who is moving to grade three next school year).

To this I say: My husband and I (well, its more I than we) HAVE A HAND in our children’s education because we chose to home school them than send them to a school. It is an unconventional way of educating one’s child/ren in this country because it is a relatively new concept here.

Anyway, above is my youngest daughter doing her reading and writing work with another child who is also the same age as herself, during one of their study periods together.

I bring my children with me to work and they get to interact with the children I work with.

My two younger children, well, mostly my son, has this habit of not going to sleep early at night, even if he is very tired during the day

I know children his age need a lot of sleep but he can’t seem to get in the groove of sleeping early even if he woke up early

We even call him “call center agent” because of his habit of staying awake well into the dead of the night and waking up before noon :(

The theme for this Saturday’s photo hunt is YELLOW

Here is another entry, YELLOW LEAF

Below is a photo of a flower that actually has a yellow shade but has peach/pinkish color on the other side of the petals.

Sometimes I buy fresh flowers to add beauty to our dining table. I just buy from the vendors in front of a church because these are way cheaper when bought in the supermarket that we frequent.

Fresh flowers do not just make rooms brighter, these make our mood lighter and happier too :)
