Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. When I was younger, this day was a day that classmates look forward to. Not because they get to have Valentine for that day, and get or not a gift, a flower, a date and even a box of chocolates.

We get to play games like match the broken red hearts. We had fun making our own greeting cards in various shades of red and pink. These greeting cards can also double as gift cards, if, one has a gift to give.

With some schools, they celebrate their proms during this day to make it even more exciting.

So, how should I make this day even more special with my children? Our homeschool provider sent an email the other day asking for the children to write a Valentine’s Day message for their parents. The email started with this:

Pls ask your kids to write YOU a love letter.

I know this is kinda sweet and I can’t wait to read what my children will write for me.

Technology is one fun area to get into, except that this same technology has no permanence because tech people have been developing new and better things to offer to their consumers.

Was it just a little more than a decade ago when colored computers came into being?

I remember those computers with green letters which changed later to something like white or gray. These were like hi-tech movie reality to the then young people like me. To even go near one was an unforgettable experience. No kidding.

The advent of the cd-rom made computing more fun not just for kids but for adults as well. I remember immersing myself in the role of Carmen San Diego, traveling the Oregon Trail and later on exploring the mansion in Phantasmagoria.

A few days ago, I heard a young girl (not my student) talking about finding data and sites regarding weight loss pill reviews. I was shocked of course, to hear her say it.

As I was thinking about why she is so conscious about her body, it came to mind the countless television commercials and print ads that bombard people about these things.

In short, the perception of beauty for these young girls means slim and sexy bodies. Not only that, throw in the long straight and silky hair and/or pinkish-fair skin and the “perfect young woman” is there.

I remember a student who according to her mom “Feels sad because one of her teachers (meaning us) called her ‘fat’”. To think she was only five years old then. Here was what happened.

Such is a major dilemma among adolescent, young girls who are the opposite of the features I have mentioned above. Coupled with the fact that some of them have to “battle” the unwelcome advances of the opposite sex, throw all these together and there will be challenges.

Shelved under home management, Information

One of the things I love to look at when window shopping are furniture. Bedroom furniture, bathroom fixtures, kitchen essentials as well as office furniture for that home office that has been being planned for the longest time. We call this place the library though we prefer to convert the room into a home office soon.

The home office does not look like one what with knick-knacks, bags on the floor, scattered papers with drawings, coloring pages on the computer table and slippers on the floor. Yes, when the children are walking barefoot, its in the library/home office where one can find the missing pair :D
