Valentine morning was spent as a Family Day in my eldest daughter’s school as a culminating activity for their Science, Math and Computer Week.

They had cheering competitions with three guest judges from other universities.

It was fun watching the children do their moves, chants and stunts.

I saw several students with special needs who were able to perform with their class and I am sure their parents were proud of them.

The theme for this week’s Photo Hunter is NAUTICAL.

My other entry is a scale model of the USS Nimitz CVN-68.

For this entry, I have decided to re-post a photo of my two younger homeschooling children playing with paper boats that I have taken last year. This activity was for a Science concept on water.

This week we are discussing about the different water formations and looking at photos of the prominent water forms around the world.

Anyway, here is the photo:

There you go. I hope these paper boats are qualified for nautical :)

If not, here is another photo taken by my husband from a passenger ship:

Children and pets go together. I know, I have both.

Having pets entail a lot of responsibilities though. From the feeding to the grooming and of course the more tiring and yucky task of disposing the turd and cleaning up urine on the floor. Urine on the floor is easier than that on the sofa. Ugh, what a retching smell it has.

Having pets mean a lot of expenses too. From the dog food to dog accessories like clothes and travel bag, these things tend to pile up and the next thing one knows, a big amount has been dispensed already. What about the pressure to bring the pooch to a grooming salon. The pet beds, the spa, the combs and clips. Yes, the list would be longer than your arm and could even be more outrageously expensive than your own personal needs.

It’s good that we settle for short fur dogs with low maintenance expenses. Still lovable nontheless :)

I have heard this line before from a mentor and from other parents who have children with special needs (who heard it from that same mentor):

“When the cup is full…”

No, I am not talking about counting one’s blessing. This pertains to the “brain capacity of a child” specifically a child with learning problems. How so?

It means that when a cup is full already, no matter how much water one pours in it, the capacity will still be the same. Sure, there will be spillage and the water might be replaced but the capacity remains constant. This cup is likened to a brain and the water is likened to the information that the brain can hold.

I do not know if I totally believe this philosophy because the human brain is much more flexible and complex compared to a cup.

“I have crossed a thousand bridges, in my search for something real. There’s a bridge made of color, in the sky high above, and I pray that there must be bridges made out of love…”

I love this song. I can listen to it again and again.

I have so many photos of bridges. New ones, old ones, hanging bridges, and figurative bridges too. Bridges are wonderful photography subjects for these are varied, interesting and symbolic too.

On our way to my parents home last Sunday, I ask my hubby to stop the car near a river so that I could take photos of the bridge for it is this bridge which makes me feel closer to home. But since we were on the other side, I decided not to use these photos here but in my other entry.

I then rummaged through the CDs where the files are stored and I got this photo after almost an hour of the same bridge in my other entry, but the one below was pointing towards where our family’s home, my parents’ home can be found.

It is a bridge that has a lot of memories for me. I have crossed that on foot because the other side got destroyed by lahar flow after the Mount Pinatubo eruption.

Most of all, this bridge brings wonderful memories of coming home to my family.
