Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. When I was younger, this day was a day that classmates look forward to. Not because they get to have Valentine for that day, and get or not a gift, a flower, a date and even a box of chocolates.

We get to play games like match the broken red hearts. We had fun making our own greeting cards in various shades of red and pink. These greeting cards can also double as gift cards, if, one has a gift to give.

With some schools, they celebrate their proms during this day to make it even more exciting.

So, how should I make this day even more special with my children? Our homeschool provider sent an email the other day asking for the children to write a Valentine’s Day message for their parents. The email started with this:

Pls ask your kids to write YOU a love letter.

I know this is kinda sweet and I can’t wait to read what my children will write for me.

Read a funny poem here.

Lat year I simply cut out hearts and helped Yohan write a Valentine note on each. He gave it to his classmates. I’m still thinking what to give to Yohan’s classmates this year.

When I was still teaching in a regular school, I look forward to Valentines because we get to make greeting cards for the parents and games during circle time. I also prepare loot bags for the kids. I had one Korean student though who gave everyone a special token (I got a cellphone bling bling) because apparently it’s an important occasion in their culture..

Lovely assignment, but I imagine it feels a bit awkward asking them to write you hehe… When we were kids and my mom was away working overseas, she’d get someone to deliver a heart-shaped cake for us right before we leave for school on Valentine’s! :)

It used to be fun but as we grow older, it used to be corny. When we grow a little bit older, it would probably be fun to think about those things again :D
