OFW stands for Overseas Filipino Worker or those fellow Filipinos who work overseas and send over (collectively) millions worth of dollar remittances every year.
OFWs come home in droves everyday, pushing luggage filled with their belongings and things they brought home for their family.
But not all of them come home for a vacation. Some of them come home with sad stories of being displaced and worse, abused by their employers.
2009 is going to be a very challenging year for them, according to the people who work in the government’s labor department.
The challenge however, will not only for these OFWs and their families alone. The challenge should be the government’s who should provide much needed jobs for them.
I hope they would be able to cope the challenges that lie ahead, not just for them but for all of us.
