teacher julie,
my son was diagnosed w adhd and GDD, he was given ritalin half tab to help him concentrate in school, I stopped giving him the medication when i read negative feedbacks about the med. Now we still have the ebhavior problem to deal with and his speech is also delayed although not that much, his speech age was diagnosed as that of a 3 1/2. I so much want to send him to a speech therapist and OT as was prescribed by the developmental pedia, but we cant due to budget constraints. It really hurts me when he gets left behind in school, there was an instance that they had an activity in school, everyone in the class was included but they left my son behind, he just sat there at the sidelines and cheered on his classmates, of course it didnt last long, after a while he got restless with doing nothing so he stood up and played around which annoyed the teacher and principal. after that episode, i did not bring my son back to school anymore. I told my son that he's not pasaway, he's just misunderstood. I really am at my wits end, I want to help him so much but I don't know where to start.. That's why when I found your website, I was kinda relieved. I'm a working mom and along w my 5 yr old son, i also have a toddler to take care of. IF you could ;possible refer a therapist for him that wouldn't cost that much, I asked around and the initial eval alone for both therapy would cost up to 6k, and the daily session at 500-600 each. We really cant afford that much. Can you help us out with this. I would really appreciate any help you can give... thank you so much and God Bless...

There are children who really go through the "works" crying their hearts out. The parents are usually asked to remove themselves from the therapy room little by little with excuses like going to the bathroom, etc.

In time, they will get used to their therapists especially if they enjoy the things being done.

I hope your son has adjusted already. Some takes a lot of time adjusting.

You're definitely right about the crying. My son's first session, he cried the whole hour! I was traumatized! I brought him back after a few weeks, left the place when he started and came back just in time to pick him up. He eventually got used to the sessions.
