Cross stitching used to be a favorite hobby, not just with me but with a lot of my friends. I do not exactly remember when I stopped doing cross stitching, perhaps after the birth of my firstborn child.

I had several pieces finished and framed but there are more that were unfinished. The first piece I did is in my parents’ home. A duck near a basket of flowers :D

Below are two of my simple cross stitched and framed projects. The more complicated ones were unfinished.

Cross stitch designs ranged from the simple ones like Chinese characters where the golden thread is used.

There are also the very cute and cuddly pastel Precious Moments designs which require many different threads for the finished product.I had one but it got ruined when the frame got wet by the rains and my cross stitch got dirty so I had to throw it out. Sigh.

There are also those huge angel designs that those who are able to finish these are admired among close circle of friends. Why not, the angel designs sizes comprise mostly of two to four  pieces of simple designs put together. It is a back-breaking and not to mention, daunting task.

There are quaint English cottages or whole villages with flower gardens (I have an unfinished piece with a little pond and a boat), animals (I have a three-horse piece which never saw completion too) and classic designs of people dressed elegantly (I have a finished but never framed design with three girls wearing gowns while flying their kites).

if one got a cross stitched and framed wedding gift, that goes to show the newlyweds are loved because a lot of time has been invested in their gift.

There were only a few places then where one can have her masterpiece framed. Along the sidewalk in one city next to where we are located which asks for a price half of what the mall-based craft stores charge.

One can choose the frame that will look best on the design of the cross stitch. These craft stores and/or framers usually use picture frames for the finished products.

Cross stitching has come a long way. Designs are more complicated and more realistic. If I were to cross stitch again, I do not really know if I will be up to the task.

But that would  have to be something that remains to be seen because among teaching, homeschooling, house chores, blogging and so many other things to do, I may not find the time.

I am optimistic though, who knows, I may take this up again since I still have lots of unused threads.

Belle, the unfinished ones are even more beautiful, not because I made these but they are, really, but sad to say, I wasn’t able to finish and I think these will stay as such.

You can start with easier ones. Why, one can even customize a design out of a photograph :) Its fun, if I have not found blogging, I may be still doing these things.

I plan to do this again, Pearl, not to finished those big masterpieces because those were lost causes but to make easier ones that I can finish.

Hey, who knows, this might be something we can do together when we retire?

That is a nice option but pray tell, what if arthritis is in the picture? That would be a sad predicament.
