There are several classes of people in our societies, even if we do not tend to classify people as such. I have often heard of the terms class A, B, C, D and even E. There are first class and there are even those that are called low class.

There is a term called the elite and a term called the masses.

There is what we also call as old-rich, or those whose families were into businesses that has given them unquestionable wealth and prestige.

There is also what is called new rich or nouveau riche. More often, these so-called nouveau riche people are being scoffed off by the old rich. Why? The reason why would be because they are more aggressive, they used to belong to a lower class strata, they seem lacking in breeding and  are deemed “uncultured.”

For me, to become a nouveau riche or a self-made man is not a bad thing. I think this is even better because I know these people would not rest on their laurels. They have worked hard to be where they are and had not depended on the family’s fortune, prestige and class. As long as they do not step on other people’s toes, they have a right to the good standing that they are experiencing for themselves.

Sana nga dumami ang nouveau riche to expand the middle class. I guess many OFWs and new businessmen may be classified as such. Not to mention lotto winners. :)

Lam mo Pio asked me one time, Mama rich ba tayo? I answered no, we’re not. Then he shot back, eh di mahirap pala tayo, he he he…

Yes, OFW, businessmen and lotto winners. But lotto winners seem to lose their winnings because of “extended family members” hehehe…

I would like to read about the differences in how these old-rich and new-rich rear their children, who are more lax and who push their children to learn about life’s lessons. Do you know of such study, AM?

by the way,at the rate the US economy is going, (the new rich there are probably the most affected) and how this will impact us makes me nervous.

Mga bata talaga..

Julian asked me that too. I asked him back what he thinks. He said he doesn’t think we are rich kasi daw lagi sinasabi “kapag may pera, ganito ganyan… or kaya lang…” which is our way of telling them “NO”

I believe children should accept and learn to live with “NO” especially with purchasing things that are not really necessary.
