Every Saturday, participants post photos based on a theme. The theme for this Saturday, August 16, 2008 is COLORFUL.

My vegetable salad: lettuce, tomatoes and yacon (apple of the earth). Click here to read about yacon.

Pink calachuchi flower

Red and green bell peppers

Have fun hunting for something colorful. There is so much color to see around us that makes life more beautiful and more colorful (without Photoshop touches of course)  :)

Yacon … never heard of it. I’ll go read more about it now.

Hi Teacher Julie,
Very colorful! Sarap ng salad ah. My dad grew yacon and I tasted it. I think it’s more for the nutritional properties that it’s very popular these days.
It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a kalachuchi that color, it’s so pretty.

Cess, the yacon is sweetish, like apple and pear with the consistency of singkamas. It also darkens fast so it has to be consumed as soon as it has been peeled.

Yacon is more like singkamas but sweeter. It looks like ube though. I even mistook it for cassava. I had it raw. Make sure that it is eaten as soon as peeled because the flesh darkens.
