Every Saturday, participants post photos based on a theme. The theme for this Saturday, July 19, 2008 is to post a photo which will prompt the uninitiated the question: “What IS that?”

What IS that? A tractor in the sea waters of Subic Bay.

What IS that? Arroz Negro. Black Squid Ink Rice from Kabisera ng Dencio’s Restaurant which specializes in Filipino food.

To the US residents, please help support The Fresh Air Fund, click here and here. Thank you very much.

Good shots. I had no idea what the second shot was until you told us. I could hardly believe my eyes with the first shot of the tractor in the water. Happy weekend.

I used to see a lot of that thing gathering rubbish in the middle of the sea. It’s supposed to be an offshore rubbish truck :P

As for the rice, it’s a waste that we do not have photohunters from another state over here. They do have rice of many colors there.

I’ve never had squid ink rice but have had squid ink spagghetti. Have to honestly ask: Does the squid ink alter the taste much? Didn’t notice with the spaghetti because of all the sauce and other stuff that came with it! ;S

Lovely picture of that “tractor”, especially the background. Nice to see.

Sorry to say that squid ink rice doesn’t look appetizing to me! But it looks nicely done on the plate.

Great entries.

I don’t think I’ve ever eaten black rice, Julie. I’d probably have a hard time getting my family to even taste it. Very interesting.

Thanks for stopping by the creek and commenting, Julie. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Ay, what’s that talaga! Even my Apo Andeng — who’s willing to eat anything including pieces of newspaper — will say “no thank you.” hahaha Joke. I have tried black paella at Ima, very similar di ba? I liked it .. I think.
Pero sa tutuo, ayaw nga ng Apo na tumikim ng dinuguan. :)

20 Jul, 2008 @ 12:58 pm

I like the idea of black rice, just to be different. Subic Bay looks a lot nicer than when I visited in the 1980s.
