Every Saturday, participants post photos based on a theme. The theme for this Saturday, May 17, 2008 is CANDY.

Being a parent, I do not encourage my children to eat candies. By candies I mean particularly the hard and sweet ones. We enjoy our sweets by having chocolates instead. No, not the chocolate bars but the bite size ones so that the sugar intake is controlled. For the big bars, the three children do not eat one bar for himself/herself. They share. Anyway, I have photos of what we usually have in the house. The children are not here, as they are with my parents, so I got the perfect excuse to buy some for the PH and have these by myself. Hubby declined when I offered him. Yipee!

These are the kind of chocolates I am talking about. The small ones we bought. The bars were given to us. Pat, these Reese’s were like a bargain. One serving costs something like $0.25 or PhP11.00 ($1.00/PhP 41.00), if bought in a big bag.

This may look gross to you but hey, my kids love it. Pancakes with M&Ms :)

One of my poor excuses to get some candies for myself while the kids are not here. I love the red ones.

Another one of my poor excuses to get some candies for my PH entries.

Have fun looking at candies here. I guess these virtual candies won’t cause cavities but would probably make Photo Hunters me even want to get more later. Here is another fun entry for the theme. Great sweet weekend everyone! :)

I love chocolates and you included some very tempting ones in this post. I saw your question in the comments on my candy post and the one I showed is butterscotch. I prefer chocolates which is why I had hard candies. I don’t eat them up but if I buy chocolates they are gone too fast to take a photograph.

Melli, when we use M&Ms, we don’t use syrup anymore because that would be too sweet, we just use peanut butter :)

Carver, sometimes, the hard candies melt herein our house, not just because its hot (well it is hot here in the Philippines) but because the kids do not particularly eat these. The hard candies just sort of melt and stick to the wrappers.

Chocolates rule :)

I would like to sample something like that but I had gastric bypass surgery to lose weight (almost 200 pounds thus far lost) two years ago and I’ve avoided sugars since then with very few exceptions. If I consume too much sugar, I will get a case of “dumping syndrome” which suffice to say is quite unpleasant. This is something all gastric bypass patients will get from time to time from eating too much, eating too fast, consuming too much sugars or carbs, and sometimes from foods that just don’t sit well. It’s not life threatening and usually lasts only about 20 minutes, but it’s no fun.

BTW, there is a store here in Tallahassee that stocks some hard-to-find imported candy mostly from Great Britain, Belgium and Japan and another little store just up the road in Havana, Florida (an antique shop mecca if you’re ever in the area) that sells British foods including plenty of candy. And there are several Oriental markets in the area with plenty of Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese candies.

I’ve got my PhotoHunt entry up at http://www.anniemayhem.com/cgi-bin/wordpress/ in case you’re interested. If you do visit, please leave a comment and feel free to explore the rest of my little blog.

Hi Julie! I used to have it really really bad for M&Ms. But since Amy’s organic cookies, I don’t! Isn’t it amazing? I swear it is that high fructose corn syrup that messes us up. I don’t even have a stash of chocolate bars in the house anymore. Those are great candy shots by the way!
