Today is May 1. Today, Labor Day is celebrated in the Philippines.

The labor sector has always been a hot topic in the governance of this country. The labor sector seems to be always on the losing end of bargaining agreements between management and themselves who labor for the companies that they work for.

I may not have the usual problems that besiege those who always seem to be losing a battle towards equal opportunities and just compensation, but I do have problems regarding this, only minor in comparison. Sometimes I complain to myself, to my family. But when I see what is happening around me, I feel humiliated that I am not even grateful enough for the blessings that we have. No, we are not rich in monetary means, we even scrape the barrel when the going gets rough.

For a minimum wage earner, how much can they really bring home to the family? The very steep price of food, electricity, gasoline, schooling fees, medicine, and just about anything that can be purchased, how much are people willing to sacrifice just to save on some for the rainy day. Wait, can people still afford to save for the rainy days? Just thinking about these things gives me stress.

For those who work overseas, their lives constantly in danger, especially those who are crossing oceans and working in high-risk countries, they seek to answer the question if it is worth everything they do. Is it?

I have written some thoughts about Labor Day here, in my entry to the Litratong Pinoy Photo Meme.

Mabuhay ang mga manggagawang Pilipino!

It seems prices of commodities continue to increase but sadly wages remain the same. :(

So true, Rachel. We are just fortunate that we have the chance to earn extra through online ventures :)
