Last summer I discussed about Good Touch and Bad touch with my students, aiming to raise consciousness about inappropriate touching.
Young as they may be, children should be able to distinguish these things. We see about these cases in the news, we hear about children being abused so I think it is best to arm them with a possible defense, discernment. This is not just for the young girls but for young boys as well.
I feel sad that this summer, the program where this was introduced is not going to be a part of our program offerings. Why? Because we do not have enough pre-adolescent children enrolled with the center where I work. The children being referred to the center are getting younger snd younger, it seems. Almost all of them below four years old.
It seems there is a trend of parental concern over the developmental milestones of the children, or lack of it. Is this a good sign? Or a bad one? That the number of children with developmental problems are increasing? I hope not.
