Yeah, I’m really “toxic”, can’t have some fun even with my posts, I know. But then again, on second thought, wouldn’t we, as parents, want to give focus on these topics that are quite heavy? Like how are we going to discuss these HEAVY topics with our children?

Respect for Mother Nature. Our practice: bring home our trash if there’s no trash bin around.

What about death? Patriotism? Freedom?

Sharing with those who have less than what we have?

Faith. Religion. Traditions.

Lots of issues to cover, lots of topics to discuss. These are just a few of those parenting topics we will encounter as parents.

Can you think of another heavy topic to ponder upon?

By the way, I recently did a light post about heavy HERE. Promise, this is really fun and hits a sensitive spot ;)

there’s racism, discrimination of all forms (gender, age, socio-economic, cultural), corruption, inequality, injustice, etc…
i’d rather stick to your light post, hehehe…

Prior to reading Raq’s response, sex educ. was the first thing that came to my mind. The signs of the times and the shrinking fabric aka as clothes in girls that leaves nothing to the imagination does not help at all.
I am actually bracing myself for this talk with my 11 yr old. Will post about it when the time comes.

hugs,
Mary

I do discuss sex education with them. I tell them also about good touch and bad touch. Julian is not allowed to go to the boys room without hubby or else has to go with me, kahit ayaw niya kasi for girls daw ang bathroom.

MegaMom, yeah, there are so many topics to discuss with the children. At least with you, you can do these one shot deal, me I have to discuss these at different times due to their age differences. :)

Mary, good thing my daughters are quite conservative, I hope until they grow up. They are not fond of wearing those short and fitting shirts as well as short skirts. Eldest daughter who is 12 has a crush na and when I think about it, parang naha-high blood ako. But of course, this is a part of growing up and with proper guidance,I hope I would be able to discuss things objectively with her.

The heaviest topic or question I encountered from my 6 year-old was RAPE (during the SUBIC Rape case). Sometimes I think at least sex has a fun part to it, but rape??? It’s loathsome.

heavy parenting topics indeed and i don’t even know how to begin discussing sex and where-do- babies-come-from question to my 5-year old. i could just rely from her school for some reinforcement. :D

Mhalou, yes, these are heavy topics indeed. We can rely on the school but these are scientific explanation. We parents can do more than that, add some personal experiences. When the time comes, you will know what to do. :)
