First we participated in the “Salubong”, meaning the act of meeting someone arriving, or the Easter Vigil, wherein Mary (represented by a statue) will meet her son, the Risen Lord. This procession culminated at the University of the Philippines in Diliman’s Sunken Garden. A mass followed suit after the traditional reenactment of Mary and Jesus meeting where Mary’s black veil removed by an angel.

I was not able to take good photos since we were far from where the action was happening and my camera is not equipped to take photos in the dark, at a considerable distance. Anyway, here are some bits and pieces of photos that I was able to take:

During the Mass when people were listening to the homily.

After the mass when participants started to go their own ways.

Breakfast essentials which my hubby prepared in the green bag and blue basket. He brought our containers of milk and cereals (for the kids), coffee, cream and sugar for us both, and bread, peanut butter and blueberry preserves. Oh, and the thermos for hot water.

Have a great Easter Sunday everyone and remember that Jesus reigns and lives.

Read some thoughts about Easter here, if you have time. Thank you.

Sandy, there are a lot of catholic traditions during Holy Week here in the Philippines. Sad to say, people, especially the younger ones tend to flock to the beaches and party because they say, its the only time they have for vacation.

Dong, I hear you. There are high concrete stages in front of churches just for the sake of this Easter Sunday Salubong traditions. Sometimes its more of a “my-daughter-looks-more-angelic-than your-daughter” attitude that is felt.

Thanks for the visit. Hope you can come by again.
