What a sweet child. That is SOME sea star! I have never seen them that color before. Thanks for teaching me something!

  • Most of the starfish that are washed ashore in this area is blue. He returned the fish in the water afterwards. Thanks, Sandy.

Nice souvenir shot! I have not really held a starfish, I just look at them. Have a good week ahead, Julie!

  • These tend to harden themselves when humans go near them or when not in the water. Its like they are fake :)

Huh. I didn’t know that starfish came in blue. Always thought they were yellow. Guess you learn something new every day! This is a cool picture.

  • Most of the starfish we saw in this beach were blue and huge. We even saw a small red one. Thanks :)

wow! That’s one very cool find by the beach!!! I doubt in a million years I’ll be able to find something as cool as that at the beaches in Singapore :(

  • Oh, really? This place is a dive site so we see plenty. Got those small fish swimming around our feet even if the water is just ankle-deep where I stood :)

That is a lovely blue star fish! And I can only see it in our Underwater World on Sentosa Island.

  • Sentosa Island must be a wonderful place to visit, ECL, I have heard a lot about that place.

is that real animal ???

Will you visit my WS“

  • It is. Though they tend to stiffen themselves when out of water or when someone touches them.

Beautiful starfish! And what a brave kid…. my kids are afraid to touch starfish because of their tinny winny tentacles at their bottom. Happy WS!

  • These blue ones stiffen themselves when out of the water and also when people touch them so its not scary to hold them :)

That’s a lovely shot. I’ve never seen a starfish at the beach before. Cool find.

  • Rach, you would really get surprised at how wonderful it is here. Though the beach is not what I am used to seeing, under the water is another thing. I think Mabini is like that. You should check the place’s website here and look at the underwater scene.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

As for your question, what I know is pastel colors are recent “innovations” to church “restoration” and maintenance. The colonial era practice of church painting usually employs organic earth colors from plants and minerals. Most of the time, the church is left with their protective white lime palitada/stucco covering. It’s a pity that the stucco is being peeled now to expose the bricks which may hasten structural deterioration due to exposure to the elements; or being coated with cement palitada which has the same effect as moisture is locked in inside the walls. Today, there are plenty of colonial churches painted with kaleidoscope colors that make them look like birthday cakes. Garish indeed.

You have a wonderful site.

Shubert

  • Shubert, thanks for visiting me blog. Yes, I am partial to unpainted old churches like the one in Baclayon where my late FIL used to be a parish priest (he helped established the museum and built the HS there). The cathedral in my hometown in Zambales had been painted yellow. Yes, garish and to me it stands out like a big cheese. :)
