Every Saturday participants post photos based on a theme. The theme for the last Saturday of February is WOODEN.

Toys and teaching materials are mostly made of plastic. Wooden materials provide a different tactile experience for children’s developing sense of touch. Below are some of the photos that show wooden materials that I use when teaching:

(Wooden) colored pencils

Wooden inch cubes/blocks for solving basic mathematical problems, building structures, spatial-visual drills, and for making patterns.

Wooden numbers from the wooden clock that I used for sequencing of numbers and copying/writing numbers.

Wire and Bead Maze toy with wooden beads and wooden base for eye-hand coordination, visual tracking, motor planning and just plain having fun. See samples here.

Great to see an endorsement for wooden toys from a teacher.

As a retailer specialising in educational wooden toys we are seeing an increase in demand for wooden toys from schools, nurseries and our regular customers.

They might be slightly more expensive than their plastic counterparts, but a small price to pay i think when you consider they last so much longer!
