Shelved under Lessons in Life, My Thoughts

Today, Julian‘s homeschool provider Catholic Filipino Academy will hold an outreach program with the He Cares Foundation which is just mere minutes from where we are. Our family have prepared some grocery items to be shared. We have also prepared several books (though some have been used already) as well as (slightly used) toys and children’s footwear and clothes.

What is an outreach? The word itself is “loaded” since it connotes going out and reaching. Outreach does not necessarily mean physically out of the house but it also means going out of your comfort zone, going to places where one would not usually go, reaching out and touching other people’s lives. Sure, we may be able to provide for a few days worth of comfort but what happens next?

We have a lot of poverty going on in this country, a lot of difficulties just to get by day by day, tragedies being experienced, the government making promises but failing to work on these which make people frustrated and not believe them because everything looks like a circus these days, and that is a tragedy in itself.

Sometimes I feel that life in itself is a struggle, with so many obstacles to endure, so many challenges to face. But still, we try hard to be not just comfortable but successful. Not with the monetary gains but with little successes that make us want to do more, achieve more, not just for ourselves but for others too. It has been a long time since I wrote these Reflections. But reading this again made me realized how little I have changed my thoughts about the way we live our lives. And the change I may want to do would be to do more for others. I hope I would be able to do just that.

Outreach. We do it everyday, in little and big ways. Pausing from work to call or email or text a troubled friend. Parting with your last thousand bucks for someone who needs medication.

But there are those who outreach as a mission. Pursuing outreach projects that systematically try to make a difference in people’s lives.

The life of a teacher is one continuing outreach .. in a sense.

I have this outreach project for seniors I hope not just to dream about.

  • Teaching is not wholeheartedly an outreach, AM, because we are compensated. That is wonderful AM, having something going on, we start with small steps for if we don’t we may never start anything at all. This foundation we went to has so many projects not just for the children they cater to but for the parents too. Here is a sample of one of their projects :Paper Boxes
