Saturday night I went to an informal lecture made by a speech-language pathologist named Mandy. He was one of my classmates when I was taking up my post-grad course. He is in the Philippines and has worked abroad. I learned a lot, old things and new. And I learned that my teaching methods are not far from their standards abroad. It pays to be wired and able to read the latest news and techniques in one’s chosen field of specialization. And having the right career path and choices too.

My other Weekend Snapshot entry is here.

That sounds interesting. You got some good news about your teaching methods! God bless.

  • Yes, I did get some good news, Sandy, at least I know I am dong well, and so is the center I work with. It regularly buys a lot of materials from the US which we use for teaching :)

Everyone seemed so engrossed listening to Mr. Mandy there. :)

  • Yup, we were. He is a very good resource person, Lynn. So down-to-earth even if he has worked abroad. No airs, still the same Amado that I know years ago :)

I find it really important to remain adaptable to anything. By simply exposing to outside input and new techniques can improve ourselves then we strive to make things better.

Interesting weekend you got there.

  • I agree with you about being adaptable. Unlike the old school kind of teaching, new, better and adaptive techniques should be used because times have changed. Thanks for the visit K :)

Julie, my whole family is in special education here in the States. What a coincidence! My sister-in-law is a principal of District 75 (very young children)… You are all very special teachers. :)

My Weekend Snapshot

  • Really, Mary? I already took my Praxis 2 in Preschool Special Education, just in case I get a job offer with the agency I’m applying to. But I still am thinking about it since I would have to spend around  usd20k++ just to get to the USA to teach. And I don’t have that dough. Regards to your SIL.  Btw, I already visited the website of District 75 in NY when I read your comment last Monday :)

Interesting. It is important to keep up with the changing times. We need to constantly upgrade and learn new methods of teaching. Kids are so different from the past.

  • Re kids are so different from the past. So true, ECL so I am careful too not to forget about teaching about our heritage, especially with my own children. Even other Asian countries have changed too. Thanks for dropping by :)
