Monaco tagged me last month to do the “What is Your Comfort Food” meme.
My apologies to you for taking my sweet time to write a post. This is a little difficult for me since I find comfort with a lot of food, judging by the way my body stats have changed
Having a family too helped in more ways than one since food and meals are one of the best bonding time we have spent together.
Here are some of my comfort foods and why:
Last Sunday night we had Carbonara (the spaghetti noodles were not enough when I made this dish) which I prefer to eat with toasted bread with fresh parsley and fresh garlic bits (home made of course). The rest of the family members prefer plain buttered toast. This dish is also my husband’s favorite. My 6yo son remarked “Wow, just like _____!” naming a popular pizza and pasta resto as a compliment to me. No bacon toppings for me, I am restricted to take these.
I love pizza. Everybody loves pizza. I used to love pizza with as much toppings as it can have. But when the children tasted all-cheese pizza, they always request that. At first I thought it was a little bit boring. But then I came to love it too.
We had a grapevine that grew on the clothes line in our backyard when I was a child. When the bunches start to come, I would eat the grapes as soon as I pick these, standing under the vine, even if the grapes are still sour and not ripe yet. Wonderful memories.
My favorite chocolates are these ones: Baby Ruth, Butterfinger and Snickers. I remember my father bringing these home when I was a little girl. He used to work at a US naval facility in our province. I remember eating these, savoring each bite and saving portions, since these bars were brought infrequently. That was back in the days when these chocolate bars were somewhat unheard of, especially in the province. Oh, along these bars were Marvel and DC comics that my father takes home that his American bosses leave around after they have read it. Now we have these at home, in bite size, rewards for the children when they finish everything on their plates. Reward for the mom too, after a hard day’s work.
My green mango, tomatoes and onions concoction. Seaweed can be added too. I eat this with fried fish or just about any dish. Growing up in the province that produces one of the sweetest and tastiest mangoes which I also love, eating crisp, tangy and freshly picked green mango is a treat I always look forward to, even if the off-season mango can be quite expensive.
So, what are your comfort foods? Fell free to do this tag and please link to this post
Thank you.
