Children at play are actually children at work. Play is very important with children because they not only get to enjoy and have fun, but they learn through play? How? Playing lets them reflect, represent and take on roles that they observe from the things happening around them. Playing is complex because it involves creativity, planning, interpretation and expression of ideas with and without the use of materials like toys.

Here are some photos of my children at play for the PinoyMomsNetwork Fam Pics theme: AT PLAY:

Play is fun but I believe that there should also be a limit especially when it is way past the children’s bedtime. :D

was that Julian playing bangkang papel? nakakatuwa naman, meron pa rin palang mga kids na naglalaro ng ganyan. I remember playing with bangkang papel too back childhood.

and Tanya, with the coconut husks, it brought so much memory.

thanks for sharing the photos Teacher Julie. hope I can make habol sa PMN FamPics for Jan.

  • The paper boat was for a Science concept of force by wind and moving water, Feng. Nalungkot nga sila nung lumubog na yung mga bangkang papel :) The one with the bao was during the Buwan ng Wika celebration at QC Circle. :)

hi julie! ang serious naman ni julian, playing with his car :) kakatuwa ang picture niya.

  • He is always like that when he plays with his toy cars. He is “driving” with a particular race track n his mind, one that he uses dun sa mga pc racing games niya. Sometimes nga, 2 cars pa yan, magkaiba pa ng pagliko-liko. I don’t know how he does that :D

i cannot remember when was the last time i fold a paper boat like that? those days, that ‘toy’ it seems like hell lot of fun. kids nowadays are just too spoilt with gagdets and toys, they hardly need a paper boat.

here’s a tag for you, teacher julie,
http://inmypyjamas.blogspot.com/2008/01/am-i-weird.html
check it out. thanks.

  • The paper boat was actually a part of Julian’s Science subject about movement or force made by wind and moving water in our homeschool curriculum. We don’t buy our children those handy gaming consoles/gadgets, they just play pc games. These games are more enjoyable, as I have observed with them. Btw, I already did the tag here.

wow, i love that coconut husks; no need to buy those plastic ones. right? you are right, play is learning when it comes to kids and to moms and dads too :D

  • I am more “structured” pa with their play but with hubby, sus, parang labo-labo at ang gulo! He doesn’tmind that they mes around basta wala lang iiyak which is next to impossible :)

I suddenly miss the paper boat. I used to do paper boats when I am bored at school, that was gradeschool. :)

  • And what about the t-shirt paper folding and a whole lot of other designs we used for letters and notes? You know, I had a student who learned about paper folding/origami for a summer, for following instructions and concentration. It was fun daw, lalaki pa yun ha :)

I forgot the PMN Photos! Those paper boats brings back memories. It’s a pass to play with rain water.

Paano ka makakasingit niyan for computer time ;) .

That looks like such a cool game with the lampaso.
There was a time I was so obsessed getting coconut husks over here(when I found out floor polishers cost $500). I had to wait until I went to the Philippines to get them.

  • the paper boats were a part of the Science homeschool curriculum about force and movement made by wind and moving water. They got sad nng lumubog ang mga bangkang papel. We do not use bunot at home but that is a great idea to exercise and clean at the same time :D

Hi again TJ! Nice photos of your kids at play! It’s so refreshing to see some well-rounded play and not just electronic games. :) Dad sure looks like he’s having as much, if not MORE fun than Tania. :)

  • They do not have hand-held electronic games, they just use the pc for games when we are home. Si  hubby eh tends to “spoil” the kids but not me. Btw, I showed your son’s photo to Tania when she snipped some hair last Sunday. :D

great pictures of your children at play, julie. look at how engrossed they are with the computers.

  • Thanks, Belle. The computer game is called Petz3 which runs on Windows 98 so we had this installed just for the game. They adopt, take care and play with dogs until these become adults and have puppies :)

You’re kids playing bangka-bangkaan made me nostalgic for the years my own children were growing up. I hope I would still be around to make little paper boats for my Andeng.

Great pics, TJ.

  • The paper boats are a part of Julian’s Science lessons on force and movement made by moving water and wind, hence the water play. They got sad when the boats sank when these got wet.

I wish my kids could have fun playing old fashion games like tumbang preso, taguan etc.

Nowadays they just play the computer.(sigh)

  • I wish that too, Betty. They would be able to learn not just about our own childhood experiences but about having fun without using anything plugged :) Thanks for the visit!
