First it was BonggaMom, then it was Natalie and it was Monaco who all tagged me to do the 7 Things About Me meme.

Here are the rules:

*Link to the person that tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
*Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself.
*Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.
*Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Some teaching tools that I use.

I think I did something like this here but I would still love to do this and would like to focus on 7 Things About Me as a special ed teacher:

  1. I have started teaching children with special needs since 1994. Such a long time already? :D
  2. I can still remember vaguely my very first students back in 1994: Nico with ASD, Paul with Expressive Language problems, Mikki with Classical Autism, Aldrin with mental retardation, Carlo with cerebral palsy and Bea and Nikki both with multiple disorders. (Talk about vaguely remembering huh? :D) Sometimes I wonder how they are now and what has happened to them. These children, except the first two, lived or are still living within several kilometer radius where I am but I have no idea how they are doing.
  3. I have a journal/notebook which I change every year where I jot down every lesson, unusual and exceptional behavior and responses of my students. For the last two years I have two since I have two workplaces.
  4. I have several students who go to me for one-on-one enrichment programs for more than five years: JEM started at 3 now he is 13, AT started at 5 now she is 15, KC started at 9 now he is 16, JEM started at 8 now he is 13, JY started st 12 now he is 20 (!), MG started at 11 now he is 16, JR started at 6 now he is 16.
  5. I am meticulous with my work and I get hurt easily if I hear not-so-nice things said about me. But through it all, I know deep in my heart that nobody, nobody can do that to me because I know I work hard at being the best with what I am doing.
  6. I am not much enamored to parents who are not “friendly” with me. I prefer working with and am inspired to work with cooperative parents. I mean, come on, I am a teacher and it would be best for their child if they work closely with me and not against me.
  7. I teach with a cheerful disposition (even if I am not feeling well) and the children know that, they can feel that. Sometimes we laugh, we joke a little and I so have observed they don’t misbehave much and they follow what I ask them to do easily.

There you go, I think I have covered some basics about me as a special ed teacher. I am hoping that all of you:

  • Desert Diva (a special ed teacher in NM),
  • Bambie, a godmother to my son Julian and Dana, a colleague (both speech-language therapists extraordinaire),
  • Jing (a former teacher),
  • Andree (a Math teacher in my favorite state, Vermont),
  • Tita Princess, (a Filipina teacher in California)
  • KittyMama (who gave up a medical career to be a teacher to her son)

would be able to share 7 Things About You. I chose you all because you are all teachers and I know I would be able to learn a lot from and about you.

[...] I went online today after five days of self-avowed, tech-free living, only to find that I’ve been tagged twice in my absence. The first is Megamom’s question of corporal punishment; the second is Teacher Julie’s seven things about me. These are my first two tags ever (yehey!) and I am happy and eager to answer them. (They’ll make two separate posts.) [...]

Bless your heart for being a special ed teacher. It’s really for people who are dedicated and patient.

  • Thanks, Tina. Though sometimes when patience is low, but I have to bear and grin and count to ten :D

i can see how fulfilling this is for you. it is really a vocation. i started volunteer teaching for english in our kindergarden here, for pre schoolers.. there’s one little boy with a speech problem and he’s undergoing speech therapy for german language. you know what, he doesnt have this problem in english! the thing is he needs attention and some hugs.. which i also freely give :)

  • Thanks, Raq. You know, not really everything and not everyday can be that fulfilling but I can say that I feel at least most of my experiences are and I am thankful that these happened to me. You are so right, no matter how good therapists and teachers are but if they do not teach from the heart, they would have a hard time reaching out, no matter how good they are. :)

It’s nice knowing you Julie. Matagal ka na palang teacher. You admire me in #7. That is so sweet, no matter what, you’re still with your students.

  • Ay, I have been teaching looong before that. In Vacation Bible School during summers when I was in high school.
