Today is Thursday, the fourth Thursday in November, Americans all over the world are celebrating their Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a special one-day holiday to celebrate the bountiful conclusion of the harvest season. This symbolizes giving thanks for wonderful blessings and is usually celebrated by the gathering of family members and loved ones and serving traditional meals which turkey is the featured item.

Following Thanksgiving is called Black Friday, declared as a holiday too. Black Friday signifies the beginning of the Christmas season shopping. Commercial establishments usually are open very early and offer very, very low prices on their merchandises.

We do not celebrate Thanksgiving here in the Philippines although the idea is a welcome thought. On the other hand, with so many holidays we have, perhaps we don’t need another one of those long weekend deals. Yeah, I know, people need to rest from work but much is wasted when people are not productive.
Wait…

Did I say we do not celebrate Thanksgiving here in the Philippines? We do. At least with my mother’s side of the family since they will be having a get-together to share some scrumptious feast. No, not a turkey but a lechon, or whole roasted pig. My mother is going and so are Julian and Tania who are currently and still are staying with my parents.

I know today is going to be a special day for them. Its as if I can hear the laughter of my aunts and my cousins. And smell the good smell of food cooking. I just hope the rains will stop so that they can have a great time spent together.
Hmph! Makatulog na nga. Umaga na eh. (I better go to sleep now. It is already morning) :D

but i prefer lechon over turkey for thanksgiving, mas masarap lalo na pag may mang tomas sauce. i hope the weather improves so they can enjoy the get together.

  • Ahh, lechon, sarap! Especially the one from Cebu that can be eaten even without the sauce. Hope will have  a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, Belle. And yes, I will say a prayer to your kababayans.

The lechon made me comment :-) . The turkey tastes better the next day but nothing beats our lechon…

Happy Thanksgiving! It’s wonderful that your family makes it a point to spend time together during this special time.

Wow, lechon, the perfect handa for family get-togethers and celebrations.

  • Yes, the lechon. Too bad I can’t have the crispy skin anymore! I just make do with the meat, especially those attached to the ribs, yummy :)
