Mayi, tagged me a long time ago about this situation:
You are having chicken pox or german measles and you found out you are 3 weeks pregnant. Antibiotics would cause harm and damage to the growing fetus and yet, you didn’t mean to be infected with CP or GM. Would you opt for abortion? Yes or No and why.
This is a tough question because not only will this test the parents resolve and will also decide the “fate” of the baby. Being infected with chicken pox or German measles during the first trimester of a pregnancy is not only tough but overwhelming too.
The effects of having chicken pox while pregnant depends upon the timing. Click here to read more. These are some possible effects on the baby: visual impairment or hearing impairment or physical deformities or mental disabilities or motor disabilities. But guess what, there are times that these would not happen.
The effects of rubella to an unborn child are more or less the same with those affected with chicken pox. Click here to read more. I have had a student who had a mild hearing disability. He had this when his mother was five months pregnant with him.
I think I am detouring, not answering the question tag. A baby is a gift of life, no ifs, no buts. Why would anyone want to take this life into their hands and decide about its fate? This is like playing god, in my opinion. No, I am not judging those who decide to have the baby not continue to live, I would not do that.
I will end this post with two questions:
- Would a family be able to sincerely feel in their hearts the desire to end the life on an innocent baby who is considered a gift of life?
- Would a family be able to take care of the needs of their child, when it has been established that there are going to be problems once the baby is born?
Tough question, I know. I am tagging Wenchie who has four wonderful children and Raquel who has two lovely daughters.
