Today, the All Souls Day is celebrated not just in the Philippines but all over the world. This is a day when the dearly departed are remembered through prayers, flower offerings, lighting of candles and visiting where they are interred. I thought about posting this photo because it signifies about people who may not be physically present to light candles where their departed loved ones are interred but can only offer a prayer for them. But that doesn’t mean they are forgotten.

I have written in an earlier post that death does not necessarily mean the loved one is lost forever. That even when people are gone, the loved shared will not be lost, destroyed nor forgotten and that it will forever be a part of who we are.

For the Catholic Church, this is a time to pray for the souls in purgatory.

All Souls Day is also known as Memorial Day in the USA. Miss ko ng mag celebrate ang araw na to, you know, meeting with our relatives from other places…this day it’s not just a day for a BBQ or something but it’s a day to remember those who have died. ;)

  • Cemeteries have been strict these past few years, no more liquor and gambling as well as loud music. I think this is best since All Souls Day is a day of remembering our loved ones who passed away. We haven’t been able to visit our relatives but we always light candles and offer mass for them. Thanks, Raq :)

Hope you had a solemn All Soul’s Day to pay respect to loved ones who have moved on.

  • We just stayed at home for two days, lighted candles for them. We plan to offer mass for them this Sunday.  My FIL is buried in Bohol, most of my family’s love ones are buried in Zambales. We can’t really go visit them because house would be unattended. Mahirap na. Btw, congrats for winning, Rachel :)
