The theme for PinoyMomsNetwork Fam Pics this October 2007 is GREEN.

I love the colors and green is one of my favorite colors. For me, green is very symbolic. It symbolizes life, being refreshed and being at one with nature. Green also symbolizes the need to care more for the environment. Below are some of my photos and some bits of explanations why I chose to put these in this month’s theme:

A pathetic tree, trying to be cheerful despite the fact that it could soon be uprooted to give way to high rise buildings. This is one of the things we have to let go to be able to live well in highly urbanized places. Give up a lot of greenery for a concrete jungle. Photo taken at The Fort during 2007 Mother’s Day celebration. We watched a live car race/slalom which we all enjoyed.

The price of these development of more concrete structures mean not being able to enjoy the green that nature and natural things has to offer as often as we want to. So what better way to enjoy the greenery but to put these inside concrete structures? We love the ambience of Trinoma because of these features. This is one of the photos that I put in a post I have written about TriNoMa, a new Ayala Mall a few minutes from where we live. But is this enough? So how do we start to teach about appreciating nature and the environment?

As much as possible, our family try to have trips that would bring us close to nature. No need to go very far, sometimes we enjoy a Sunday morning walk or lazy after lunch afternoon at UP Diliman’s Sunken Garden. The photo above was the other weekend’s trip to Manila Zoo.

We stopped by the side of the road to admire this wonderful site on our way back to Metro Manila from visiting my family in Zambales. For our family, we feel it is very important to enjoy nature as often as we can. It is also equally important to teach our children about environmental responsibilities for us to be able to enjoy what the environment and nature has to offer. Otherwise, the only green our would-be great grandchildren would enjoy are these colored pencils that my younger children love to use when drawing pictures:

im a pro-environment too and you’re right, our responsibility starts with our children. we have to teach them how to protect and respect nature..

  • Every valuable lesson essential to be good and responsible citizens should start in the home. I know you are a pro-environment by looking at your travel photos and adventures, Ana. If we do not teach our children to protect and respect nature, who would? Thanks, Ana :)

Hi Teacher Julie,

That picture of of the flowering tree with the sky rise building is really symbolic. Believe that we should leave some space for trees and plants. Whenever I go to Makati, I like to walk by Greenbelt. Keep on being green!

  • TriNoMa is an Ayala property so the concepts of greenery is like Greenbelt’s. Part of a balanced environment is space for trees which would help us in more ways than one. Yes, I will keep on being green, with the environment and not with envy :D   Thanks, Tina.

I like all the photos, but the first one is my favorite. Like you, I try to instill some love for environment and nature in my kids. Every chance I get, I try to tell them about the importance of trees, conserving water, etc.
Parang gusto kong humabol sa fam pics ah. Pwede pa kaya?

  • We do waste segregation with our garbage. The children know how to conserve water because we have a limited supply. But even if we don’t we probably still  teach them this. We limit trips to the malls unless necessary and try to enjoy nature as often as we can.

Very nice pics! Love the first one. It’s very artistic! Love the contrast.

  • Thanks GreyMom. When we are outdoors, sometimes we have more photos of nature’s scenery than of the children, :D
