Every Saturday, members post photos based on a theme. The theme for September 29, 2007 is ORIGINAL.

When my daughter Trixie asked me a few days ago what the theme is for Photo Hunters, I replied “original”. I was surprised when she replied back “Mahirap mag-isip nang original kasi madaming fake (Thinking about something as original is difficult because there are a lot of fake things)”. Well, there certainly is, a lot of fakes, since Asia is one of the biggest producers of counterfeit products from DVDs and computer software, designer clothes, jewelry, toys, even medicine and lot more. Our country is one of the distributors of these products mostly manufactured in some other Asian countries. Consumers get these because these products are cheaper although there are dangers in buying these. The government is losing revenue because of counterfeiting.

Anyways, back to Photo Hunt’s ORIGINAL theme:

Hongkong Disneyland hologram on a box of purchased memorabilia. This is a gift from a student.

Disney hologram on the back of a video cd of Mary Poppins which is a hit with my children. The other photo depicts a hologram of the Videogram, now renamed as Optical Media Board, the Philippine government’s arm regarding counterfeit video, audio and computer software piracy.

Even toys had to have these cards as proof of purchasing an original toy. One coming from the collection of the children.

A big issue in the world today, especially when it comes to software, CD’s and DVD’s!

Hi Julie. Nice hologram stickers. I like Mary Poppins too.

A lot of manufacturers nowadays put different add-ons to their products (like special seals, hologram stickers, certificates etc.) to distinguish their products from fake ones.

  • Hologram stickers are fascinating. Yes, even eye wear have certificates as proof that the client got an original one. Thanks, Rachel :)

Love those holograms, always have. They are fascinating to hold and watch. I wish I knew how they were made, and now you have a pile of them!

  • Yes, it is true, holograms are so fascinating. Like there is a different “world” inside, like the snow ball. Thanks, Andree :) Sorry, don’t know how to make the letter e with a mark on top :D

Great take on the theme this week. The holograms are a great way to identify the originals. It is sad that there is so much counterfeiting in the world.

  • Yup. so many fakes that it is becoming dangerous if one is not too discerning what products are being bought. Thanks, Dragonheart :)

Original holograms! Has nobody tried to fake the holograms I wonder?

Thanks for your visit earlier TeacherJulie:) Have a good weekend, though yours must be almost over I suppose.

  • I don’t know if these holograms can be faked. Yup, almost Sunday am now. I think I have to hit the sack, still has a student tomorrow. Argh! Thanks, A :)

Neat idea for the photo hunt :-) I’ve not seen those holograms earlier actually, so this was news for me. I’ve seen other holograms of course, but just as art objects.

  • CLC, these holograms are famous here in Asia especially when buying the original or authentic products. Certificates are even given as proof of the purchase. Thanks, :)

I knew pirating was a problem, but I didn’t realize they put holograms on things. I haven’t seen that in the States, but maybe I have just overlooked it.

  • Not just hologram Lauren. Certificates, plastic cards and others I can’t think of right now as proofs of purchase.

OOPS! I forgot to answer your question. Yes, I sell my cards with envelopes which are sometimes also decorated on flaps. . . but they are expensive at $3.50 apiece or #3.00 a dozen so not many buy one because they can buy cheaper in stores but most of mine takes about 45 minutes to make one card. Just for your info because you asked. . .

I think this is a true meaning of the theme. I thought of taking a picture of a designer dress and a cheap fake, side by side but unfortunately I don’t have any designer dresses!

Thanks for your visit and kind comment.

Couldn’t agree with you more regarding the piracy thing but it’s good to see measures taken to ensure the original stuff are differentiated from those pirated ones. Great take on this weeks theme :)

What a clever and original interpretation of the theme. it’s a shame so many fake items are around, glad yours are original.
