This is the Manila Zoo, located in the city of Manila, Philippines. We went there yesterday, September 23, 2007 to look at the animals and learn about them as part of my son Julian’s homeschooling Science subject about animals. He is partly hidden in the photo.

Great photo! Babar the Elephant looks well cared for!

Happy WS Monday!

  • My children called him “Dumbo” though, :) The elephant was good in entertaining the people, like going around walking where there were children cheering him on.

That looks like a fun weekend outing. Good snapshot of the elephant. Have a great week, Carver

  • It was fun, except for the heavy downpour which we survived by scrambling to get a place under the roof where the big reptiles were, :D

Visiting a zoo is a good place for an actual learning for the children.

Btw, looks like the weather is cool there huh?! Is it raining yesterday?

  • Yes, the weather was cloudy then we had a downpour while we were at the zoo. Good thing (or not) we were still near the reptiles where there is roof and everyone scrambled under it. Riot! :D After the rains, it was all fine but not that cool. Except when it rained again when we were near the Manila Bay, :D Thanks, Raquel.

Teacher Julie, when we went there a couple of months ago, wala ng elephant. Daya! Hehehe… I would love to go back and take my alaga there. I do wish the city of Manila will make some improvements and add more animals :)

Happy Monday po!

  • Sashing, we just went there last Sunday. It was the giraffe that wasn’t there. The Kinder Zoo was gone too. I thought the kids would be able to pet some animals there but then, wala na pala yun.

It has been a very long time since I’ve been to the zoo. It must have been a fun time for the whole family. :)

  • Yes, it was fun even if it rained during the first few minutes we were there. Afterwards we went near the Manila Bay but it rained again. :D

I love the zoo. When I lived in Indianapolis, Indiana, I took my class there every year for a field trip. (The dolphin show was always a “hit!”) My favorite zoo is in San Diego, California – it’s an amazing place!

  • Wow, those must be very fun times with your students. Field trips are fun but sometimes, we have to take a lot of precautionary measures, especially with the younger children, to keep them safe. Thanks, Cheryl :)

I haven’t been to the zoo in years. The baby elephant is very cute.

  • Visiting a zoo is relaxing and fun. Sorry Alison, that elephant is rather old, its the same one that I first saw back in the 70s, I think. Could be since they can live up to 40+ years. Thanks for the visit, :)

[...] Last Sunday, we went to the Manila Zoo to look at the wild animals in captivity. It was also an opportunity to observe and learn about these animals. I mentioned this at the center where I work and Kat, one of the speech therapists there mentioned that she haven’t seen the tiger because it is always hiding in its cave/den. Well, Kat, fortunately for us, it did come out and even went down the steps from its den and walked for everyone to see. I pushed my point and shoot camera to its limit to get a good photo of this tiger. Kat, here is the tiger for you: [...]
