Every Saturday, members post photos based on a theme. The theme for September 29, 2007 is ORIGINAL.

When my eldest daughter asked me a few days ago what the theme is for Photo Hunters, I replied “original”. I was surprised when she replied back “Mahirap mag-isip nang original kasi madaming fake (Thinking about something as original is difficult because there are a lot of fake things)”. Well, there certainly is, a lot of fakes, since Asia is one of the biggest producers of counterfeit products from DVDs and computer software, designer clothes, jewelry, toys, even medicine and lot more. Our country is one of the distributors of these products mostly manufactured in some other Asian countries. Consumers get these because these products are cheaper although there are dangers in buying these. The government is losing revenue because of counterfeiting.

Anyways, back to Photo Hunt’s ORIGINAL theme:

Yesterday, September 27, 2007, Julian and Tania joined Julian’s home school provider Catholic Filipino Academy’s field trip at the Nestle Ice Cream’s Nestle Creamery in Aurora Blvd. Founder of CFA Bro. Bo Sanchez and his family, whose son is also with CFA, was with us. Where exactly is the Nestle Creamery? It is located along Aurora Blvd in Quezon City, here in Metro Manila, Philippines. Nestle Creamery is home to Nestle Ice Cream which is one of the leading ice cream brands in the Philippines. Nestle Philippines bought this company from Magnolia Ice Cream which used to be a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation. Magnolia Ice Cream is now back in the market but that is another story.

Julian and Pio, Wenchie’s son, also enrolled at CFA.

Tania (in white headband) with Bea, Wenchie’s youngest child. They tagged along even if they were not enrolled :)

Julian and Tania, along with a lot of children gathered at the Nestle Creamery’s lobby for the field trip. We even had home schooled Americans living in the Philippines with us.The children, along with us parents were given a presentation about the company and about the ice cream making process and about the different products. Even Kimy, a frozen delight mascot appeared to entertain the children. A very, very good marketing strategy indeed.

After the slide presentation, we then proceeded to observe the Nestle Creamery. We saw a very clean workplace with a few people manning the machines. It seems that the Popsicle stick machine was broken and some are fixing the problem. We saw Nestle and Chuckie ice cream in containers moving on a conveyor belt.

After we looked at the observation windows, we then went to the freezer located at the exit to get free Nestle Ice Cream frozen delights. Julian got for himself a Kimy Jelly Tongue, Tania got a Milo Stick and I got a Pinipig Crunch. Hubby did not go with us inside the Nestle Creamery as he had to go to a computer shop to have a computer device repaired in the nearby computer hub a street away.

Short Term Memory is a skill about processing and holding information in awareness and then manipulating it within a few seconds.

Have you had some problems like these? You are about to say something and you stop in mid-sentence, completely forgetting the word or thought or idea that you are about to say? My children tease me about this, having “memory gap”, teehee, :D . If these happen at times, rest assured, nothing serious is the matter. Especially for those who are moving up the age brackets, you know what I mean.

But if these happen with children? Then there is an underlying problem. Some of the “symptoms” for short term memory problems can be:

  • poor memory about physical/action sequences (tendency to forget activities in school, steps on how to do a project, dance steps)
  • inconsistent visual memory (tendency to forget what has been seen or watched)
  • inconsistent auditory memory (tendency to not being able to listen to or hear words spoken, having difficulty memorizing song lyrics)
  • disrupted flow of ideas when speaking and writing (happens when words, or images or thoughts were forgotten)
  • repetitions numbering more than the required number of times to be taught, in other words, drills will be taught, retaught, over and over again but there are still parts or bits that would be forgotten.

Shelved under Bits and Pieces, My Thoughts

“Oh my, my tear ducts opened up like a river and tears were gushing down my eyes.

I am sorry for your loss and I can almost feel your pain because I am a mother. At least you all have an angel in heaven who would look down on all of you.”

This was a comment I posted in a virtual friend’s blog. Why? It was all about Martin, her nephew who passed away last week. So what was so sad about this? Martin was just two years old. Read about Martin Raymond here.

Shelved under My Family, On the Road, Snapshots

Last Sunday, we went to the Manila Zoo to look at the wild animals in captivity. It was also an opportunity to observe and learn about these animals. I mentioned this at the center where I work and Kat, one of the speech therapists there mentioned that she haven’t seen the tiger because it is always hiding in its cave/den. Well, Kat, fortunately for us, it did come out and even went down the steps from its den and walked for everyone to see. I pushed my point and shoot camera to its limit to get a good photo of this tiger. :) Kat, here is the tiger for you:
