Pearl, a very close friend of mine is here beside me right now. I persuaded her to sleep over in the house tonight. In a way, this is a goodbye of sorts. She is going to live in another planet continent in two weeks time. Okay, she said it is a new DIMENSION.
All the while we were together since we met around 12 noon, she kept pestering asking me with this question: “Am I doing the right thing?” Of course, we don’t know the answer to this question, not unless she goes to this country where she was given a visa within six days! Imagine that, how fast can a foreign country give an alien, I mean a tourist, visa within six days?! Even without stepping a foot in the country’s embassy offices. Not even a glimpse, so she tells me now.
Pearl is not just an ordinary friend. She is my eldest daughter’s godmother. She has always been there, through prayers, by being there physically and electronically (thru sms and phone calls) during times when we needed help, during times when we were happy, during times when we needed a friend. Yeah, she is not perfect and is always misunderstood by others, but I know she has a heart that cares, and skills that can make a child without the ability to communicate, well, communicate. One of the few brilliant speech-language pathologists I know (of course, most of those I know are godmothers of my children), we are definitely on the losing end should she decide not to come back to this country.
Pearl, I will pray for your sojourn. I will pray that you will be able to find peace of mind and happiness. I will pray that the Lord will shower you with strength and protection. We will surely miss you but I know this is not yet goodbye. For we know in our hearts, distance is not a hindrance to a great friendship.
