Last Wednesday, August 8, 2007, we went to this trade fair called One Town, One Product which is actually a project of the Philippine government. This project is aimed to promote the local industries and specialties as well as give jobs to the locals. Since there were no classes because of the rain, the children went with me while hubby went to work. Instead of being holed up in the house we decided to go there since it is the opening and a workday which means there would be few people. We were right. The trade fair is concentrated with Luzon, the biggest island in Philippine archipelago. This rain-soaked day turned out fun and educational since we learned something new about the provinces and the towns, most of which we haven’t been to even if these were not really far.
These were some of the things we saw:
Serpentine products from the north, my hometown, Iba, Zambales:
Assorted products and Christmas decors also from Rizal.
Still from the south, from Paete, Laguna, home of the wood carvers. This bag is to die for. I would have bought one but it was expensive. Anyway, I know where these can be found so if the time is right, I can go to their place. This is made of wood with car paint as finish.
Products from Bato, where I briefly chatted with Belle‘s niece. Wonderful and ingenious creations.
Handicrafts from Palawan, so-called the last frontier.
Strawberry wine from the far cool mountains of the north. No, didn’t get a bottle. I got a bottle of strawberry cider vinegar instead.
Hand-woven fabric and clothes from the far cool northern Kalinga mountains. I love the colorful designs.
My children, especially Ate, enjoyed going to the fair. She sampled all those free food tastes/samples. Kuya enjoyed his carabao milk. We loved the tahong chips as well as the different food products we bought. It was a fun time. I would have loved going back if only its not weekend already (lots of people would be coming there, for sure). Way to go Philippines!
