Last Wednesday, August 8, 2007, we went to this trade fair called One Town, One Product which is actually a project of the Philippine government. This project is aimed to promote the local industries and specialties as well as give jobs to the locals. Since there were no classes because of the rain, the children went with me while hubby went to work. Instead of being holed up in the house we decided to go there since it is the opening and a workday which means there would be few people. We were right. The trade fair is concentrated with Luzon, the biggest island in Philippine archipelago. This rain-soaked day turned out fun and educational since we learned something new about the provinces and the towns, most of which we haven’t been to even if these were not really far.

These were some of the things we saw:

serpentine

Serpentine products from the north, my hometown, Iba, Zambales:

prod2

Assorted products and Christmas decors also from Rizal.

bluebag

Still from the south, from Paete, Laguna, home of the wood carvers. This bag is to die for. I would have bought one but it was expensive. Anyway, I know where these can be found so if the time is right, I can go to their place. This is made of wood with car paint as finish.

bato

Products from Bato, where I briefly chatted with Belle‘s niece. Wonderful and ingenious creations.

palawan

Handicrafts from Palawan, so-called the last frontier.

strawberry wine

Strawberry wine from the far cool mountains of the north. No, didn’t get a bottle. I got a bottle of strawberry cider vinegar instead.

handwoven

Hand-woven fabric and clothes from the far cool northern Kalinga mountains. I love the colorful designs.

My children, especially Ate, enjoyed going to the fair. She sampled all those free food tastes/samples. Kuya enjoyed his carabao milk. We loved the tahong chips as well as the different food products we bought. It was a fun time. I would have loved going back if only its not weekend already (lots of people would be coming there, for sure). Way to go Philippines!

  • Ay, sayang! We were there around 12pm and stayed a little over 2pm. Would have stayed more but 2 hours were too much for Julian already. The products are so wonderful!

i love those bags!!! how much are they, hmm.

  • These bags are expensive, PhP2,500.00. I can’t afford one right one. Maybe when I have paid the monthly bills, these just started coming one by one, :D But even then…this is definitely a want, not a need. Yet.

What a fun way to spend a rainy day. The handbag was really pretty – I can see why you want one.

Try to stay out of the rain and dry!

  • It was fun and we learned a lot too. My daughter had a fun time tasting the food specialties, :D We did manage to stay out of the rain, thanks.

Thanks for sharing the photos Teacher Julie, yes I hear you on the bag. It’s beautiful! How much was it? Do they have a website where to buy those products?

  • The bag costs PhP2,500.00. I didn’t ask about the website but they do have a store in Paete, Laguna (after Antipolo or Caliraya Lake). According to the girl in the booth, the business is owned by the owners of Exotic, a restaurant in the said town. Sorry, didn’t think about asking for a website since they are just about an hour and a half away, :) Just tried Googling but there’s none so far.

Thanks for sharing these pics, Julie. LOVE LOVE LOVE this post – promoting Philippine products and shopping, 2 of my faves! LOL
I have to agree with you, Raq and KK the bag is really unique and beautiful. Love the lamps from Rizal. And I wonder how the strawberry wine tastes like.
I sure hope they have websites like what KK said, then people from other parts of the globe can peruse their sites. ;)

  • Re websites, perhaps it is best to go to the official site of the Department of Trade and Industry, which promotes this project.  Ay, there were so many wonderful products there! I would probably be making another post about it just so I could put some of the others photos. I only got to photograph a few since we were loaded with the food products that we bought. Now that you mentioned it, I was looking at my bottle of strawberry vinegar earlier and told myself I should have gotten that strawberry wine. Tsk, tsk. No use saying that, I’m not going back there even if there is still Saturday and Sunday. Wouldn’t dare go with crowds surely coming there.

i have to bring me some of those when i get back there!

  • Yes, these are lovely. Matter of fact, there are stores in SM malls that sell these specialties. No need to go there to buy, lol. Though of course, it is nicer to go there and buy these, :D

[...] I love the different tastes in food: sweet, sour, (a little) salty and (mild) spicy tastes. But I believe that the food that I love taste better when shared with my loved ones. Not our dining table, I took that photo along with many others in a trade and products fair we went too and posted some here and here. Have Saturday work from 7am – 4pm. Will be visiting your blogs later. Have a great weekend everyone! Toodles! [...]
