Eastcoastlife and Jing tagged me to do this meme: Eight Random Facts About Me.

The Rules of this tag are:

  1. Link to your tagger and post this rules.
  2. List eight (8) random facts about yourself.
  3. Tag eight people at the end of your post and list their names (linking their names).
  4. Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment in their blogs.

OK, here goes the eight random facts about me:

  1. I love to read books. Though I haven’t had the the luxury of having enough time to read books, I still manage to read a few. But my love for books goes beyond reading. If I like an author’s style and genre, I tend to buy books written by him/her. I have collections of some authors like Mary and Carol Higgins Clark, Tom Clancy, Jonathan Kellerman, Katherine Neville, Dan Brown, Patricia Cornwell, Richard North Patterson to name a few. Yes, I know you got the drift already, :)
  2. I love music. Classical, New Wave (of course, I’m an 80s girl!), Jazz, Heavy Rock and Patriotic or those being sang by the street democrats in rallies that they go to. We mostly listen to classical and jazz these days. Plus some light, easy-to-the-ears kind of music.
  3. I had some difficult time balancing my Protestant upbringing (we are Methodists) and being in a Catholic school ran by Paulinian sisters when I was still in grade school and high school. In grade school the Irish school director didn’t want me included in the honor’s list because I’m not Catholic. In high school I reported about Protestantism as a heresy.
  4. Since my husband is Catholic and we were married in a Catholic ceremony, the children are baptized in Catholic. This was the agreement set by the church because I did not get myself baptized in their religion.
  5. I feel I need to restrain myself a lot of times to not use my sharp tongue on people who, in my opinion, are inconsiderate. Like those who leave their grocery cart in the middle of the aisle to get something from a shelf, or those who just let their children run around in the mall, especially those wearing shoes with small wheels. You know what I mean, the list could be endless.
  6. Before I became a special ed teacher, I was a preschool teacher and before I become that, I worked in an office in the HR department. I just lasted for a month, I was bored to tears.
  7. I enrolled my eldest daughter in the grade school department of a women’s university that accept children with special needs. Why? I want her to experience being with these children for her to be able to understand and know how to deal with them, react and interact appropriately (wow, sounds like a program objective). Ditto with my Julian and Tania, I let them interact and play with the children in the center. Sometimes they don’t like it when they are accidentally hit or bumped.
  8. I have a black thumb. I can’t grow flowering plants, ornamental plants, orchids, whatever. I don’t know why. I tried a lot of times. Even the very low maintenance plant like the bromeliad, it died.
  9. Oh, nine already? I’m enjoying myself here so much I didn’t noticed I’m finished already.

Now its my turn to tag. For those who have been tagged doing this, my apologies.

To those who haven’t, my apologies too, for having you write something like this, I just want to get to know you more, that’s why. But you know what, I enjoyed doing this and I loved it. Hope you will too. :)

  1. Joanne, who just gave me another Rockin’ Girl Blogger award up my sleeve. I am wondering where you are because the photos you put in the PH are not from the Philippines.
  2. Ipanema, I am intrigued by you and I want to know you more. I gotta take a photo of those cute flip-flops named Ipanema that I saw in SM and send these to you (photos for now).
  3. Jose, you are one cool person. A grandpa who takes a lot of photos and puts them in his blog.
  4. Melanie, a Filipina married to an American who has a lot of stories to tell.
  5. Dragonheart, a Sphynx owned by wonderful humans. Sorry dear, not really you, I have read a lot about you, but I mean your humans, the humans behind your blog, :)
  6. Patricia, who takes wonderful photos and who writes inspiring posts.
  7. Meeyauw, who lives in a wonderful place that I dream to visit some day.
  8. Turtles, who continues to find answers and ways for her child.

Thank you Julie for doing my meme. :) I’m glad you enjoy doing it. I get to know you better.

Like you, I have a sharp tongue and a black thumb. hehehe….. I’m not about to restrain myself on reprimanding the inconsiderate people. They need to be educated.

  • I enjoyed doing the tag. I got to “dig deeper” and look at things about me where I know matter most to me. Thank you very much. :)

I like that “black thumb”: another thing we have in common! But I love photographing flowers, so I do enjoy them.

My late husband was Catholic (I am Congregationalist) and we had the same problem. But that was back in the seventies and I thought the Catholic church had stopped doing that! Anyhow, all of the kids PLUS my husband eventually left the Catholic church and became members of the Congregational congregation that I grew up in! Who would’ve thunk it!

Thank you and I will work on my list tomorrow!

  • I have read you post already. The religion issue was back in the 70s when I was in grade school, ;)

Hi Teacher Julie! Thanks for doing this. It really made you know you better kahit konti lang :) I was also in a Paulinian school but from preschool till high school. :)
Sad naman nung discrimination for not putting your name in the honor’s list bec you were not a CAtholic. Bad example naman yung Irish Director, hmp!

  • Jing, he did eventually, had me in the list. Yeah, that was it then, don’t know if they still do that till now. Though there are still Catholic schools who discriminate those whose parents are separated or families who are non-Catholic. What SPC branch were you? Mine was in the province.

Hi Julie, I also gave you the Rockin’ Girl Blogger Award. I thought I posted it here in one of your posts. Btw, how are you doin’? Hope everything’s ok with you.

  • Thanks Rowena. I already updated my RGB Award icon on the sidebar and included Joanne’s and your awards. Thanks so much. Julian and I are cramming for the first quarter exams. We started our lessons during the first week of August and we are almost through with most of them.

Hey Julie,

Thanks for your kind comments. I’d love to do the meme. I’ll work on it tomorrow.

I was raised Catholic but left the church when I was in college. I wanted a priest to marry Tim (a protestant) and I, but they wanted him to switch over. I didn’t agree with this. Tim has always been very spiritual and I felt he was much more intune with God and spirituality than the priest was. I love his church and am very happy raising the kids as “Disciples of Christ”.

  • That’s what they wanted us to do too, me being baptized in the RC. That’s why we had a mixed marriage ceremony. But all our three children were baptized Catholic. They would be making their own choices when they are mature so I see no reason to disagree. :)

Thanks for more intereting tidbits about Teacher Julie.

We got some in common. Books of course (but — i guess most bloggers are book lovers, no?). Our similar colored thumb (mine is brown and I can grow katakataka because nobody cannot NOT grow it … try it. It thrives with neglect and handling by ungreen thumbs. And I think I can be sharp tongued too when reacting to insensitive behavior.

  • AM, I was given healthy orchid plants with flowers vefore but guess what, these died! Katakataka, hahaha! Ay, AM, you are fun! :)

Sorry that it took me so long to respond to the tag, Julie, but I finally posted it here: http://pollywogcreek.blogspot.com/2007/08/simca-torn-hamstring-concert-pianist.html

I knew you would get a kick out of my “funky” guava photo! =)

I bet you are wonderful special-ed teacher, Julie. I also love to read and can appreciate most music, too. My thumb isn’t “green”, either, but fortunately I married a farmer! =)

Be blessed, Julie!

  • Patricia, I’m gonna head over to your blog and read your post. Hmmm…the guava, I have a post coming up about that, :D And I will link it to you. Thanks for doing the tag, :)

I love music too - 80s music esp. and yes, classical and jazz and easy listening.

My kids study in a Protestant school; my hub is a Buddhist. I do not restrict them from practicing Buddhism with hub and FIL. It is my earnest hope though that they will not be confused, instead that they will get the best from each belief. I have an open policy with regard to religion :)

  • That would be very good, Chateau, to get the best from each belief. My children attend Vacation Bible School in the provinve during summer vacations. They would be making their own choices naman when they grow. Thanks, :)

same here, same with Annamanila, everything green i touch dies. i wonder why?

  • Black thumb women unite! Maybe its high time to take gardening lessons. If there’s none, gardening tips. My daughter once wrote something like this for a school essay: “My mother does all the household chores because we don’t have a helper. But she does not have any gardening skills.” Told her to skip that part to which she retorted: “Bakit, totoo naman ah! (Why this is true!)”. Its true, :D
