Every Saturday, member post photos based on a theme. The theme for this Saturday, July 21, 2007 is TINY. Visit the Blog Roll.

cars

My children love to collect these tiny, mostly 1:64 scale cars. Julian specifically has about 30+ of these. Trixie has several too, as well as Tania. They just don’t get any cars, they get those Japanese import tuning cars used in the EA Games Need for Speed Underground II pc game. Update: Photo taken at Tomica display in Toy Kingdom, a toy store here in the Philippines.

tiny flower

Just can’t resist putting this teeny, tiny flower photo that I took when we had our birthday picnic lunch last Sunday (July15). Amazing how these plants, no matter how seemingly tiny or small, can give so much color and life to their surroundings.

bug

This photo may seem scary but believe me, this is one very tiny insect that lives on plants. Compare its size to the raindrop on the leaf’s blade and you will see how tiny it is. I don’t know what it is called. But it certainly makes a good photo subject.

sierramadre

This photo was taken last Sunday (July15) when we had our picnic lunch.
We may feel great. We may feel important. We may feel successful. Well, we may even feel superior to others. But have we ever wondered how we compare to those wonderful creations of God? We have majestic mountains, vast and deep seas, colorful plants and huge animals. The truth is, we are almost too insignificant, too tiny to be compared to these.

As an Original Pilipino Music song lyrics by Asin goes:

Kahit sino ka man ay dapat malaman
Na dito sa mundo ikaw ay tuldok lang

Translation:

No matter who you think you are, you ought to know, that in this world, you are just
as big/as significant as a period.

Beautiful photos. I agree about the flowers – I think that’s why I love them so much – they really make one smile.

  • Thanks, TNChick. I love taking flower photos since I can’t grow them. :)

Humbling yet liberating thought, isn’t it, Ms. Julie? When we feel so important, and that our problems seem larger than life, it helps to realize that we are just tiny specks in the universe. Thanks for the reminder.

  • Yes, I agree with you. We are sometimes so full of ourselves we tend to forget how we measure up with God’s “standards”. We start being “big” when we are humble.

Hi Julie. My son loves collecting some cars too. He also has a lot of small die-cast trains. My husband is thinking to have a customized cabinet made for them.

What an interesting looking insect. Amazing macro shot. I wish I could capture something as great as that. The flower is beautiful.

Such a grand view! Thanks for sharing. Happy weekend.

  • My son’s collection of cars are all “ruined” Dented fenders, peeling paint, removed spoilers. At least we know he enjoyed playing with these. I don’t think a cabinet would do well for Julian. He carries these in a plastic basket. Or one or two in his pocket, :)

Oh I loved that tiny flower…but that bug? eeewwwie! I hate bugs! Great photos for this week…made me stop and think with the last one! My photo is up, please come and visit

  • Becci, that bug? It is so tiny I hardly noticed it. I shudder just by looking at it but I enjoy the challenge of taking photos of them. Thanks for reflecting on the thought for the last photo.

21 Jul, 2007 @ 10:06 am

Those are lots of cars. My son used to own lots and lots of Match box cars too.
Thanks for the visit.

  • Those cars are so full of details that’s why my children love to collect them. :)

At 47 years old I still collect little cars too, guess I’m a kid at heart. Great set of pictures, all good for the week’s theme.

  • Jose, collecting these little cars is no mean feat. Its for the enthusiasts and in my children’s case, budding car enthusiasts. Thanks, :)

What an excellent set of photos. I love the tiny insect (then again insects is a recurring theme on the Poor Mouth!) Happy weekend

Julie, I love that tiny insect photo. What camera do you use? I cannot have a decent shot like that.

  • Thanks Lynn. The camera for the bug was a point and shoot, Canon A460 which my brother bought from me last summer. As for the other photos, I used another point and shoot, Canon A530. These cameras are good with macro photo especially the A460. Really good. :)

Goodness, what a variety you have for us to comment on, but I especially like the twist in the last one. I got it before I read your comments on it, that we are so small. However, we are big in God’s eyes! He loves us so!

  • I totally agree with you there Hummie. Even if we compare as tiny in God’s creations, still we are big in God’s eyes because He created us more special than the others. :)

21 Jul, 2007 @ 8:18 pm

Lovely post!

I also love the layout of your blog. It’s so pleasing to the eye!

Thanks for dropping in.

  • Thanks, Misslionheart :) Btw, my eldest daughter has a shirt with “Lionhearted” painted on front. Cool.

oh wow…is that what your kids keep their cars in? It’s soooo neat!! I love them! Mine’s usually in a box.

I have the same pix too! HA HA!

  • Mott! I’m sorry, the photo was taken in a toy store. The kids’ toy cars? Dented, dilapidated, in a plastic container/box. At least I know they enjoyed playing with them but still… :)

Tiny terrific photos with a philosophical touch. I agree we seem insignificant in backdrop of God’s vast creation. But the good news, is God doesn’t think so. :)

  • Yeah, I was hurriedly doing the post so I wasn’t able to add that part. Thanks for reminding me AM. :)
