Every Saturday, members post photos based on a theme. The theme for July 7, 2007 is FAKE. Visit the
BLOG ROLL.
These are fake pearls or in fashion language, faux pearls. Sold at bazaars, a strand costs PhP40.00 or about $0.85. If these were done in a more intricate design, these would cost more. There are also those settings that look like real precious stones. These are more expensive.
So what made me decide to put this up? Why, not every mall has its own outdoor garden like this one we went to. And who would have thought of a fake giraffe in the middle of one. By the way, there is also an elephant and a rhinoceros in this area.
The sound of water cascading on the rocks is soothing. The spray of mist on the face is refreshing. The area surrounding this man-made waterfalls is cool and relaxing. Who wouldn’t want to have one in their own garden? This was one of the nice spots in a restaurant we went to in the cool mountains of Tagaytay City, south of the metro.
And now I give you these:
These are fake DVDs. Fake as in pirated, or copied from the original. One dvd just costs PhP70 or $1.50. The Philippine movie industry is almost “dead” with just the big and moneyed producers doing movies and several low-budgeted indie films. Sales on movie tickets are also affected because the cost of ticket for one person is higher than the price of the dvd itself. And that does not include food, gas, plus other expenses so watching a movie as a family is out of the question. Matter of fact, what used to be cinemas in malls have been converted to concert venues. The only time these cinemas are full is when there are major foreign films showing like Spiderman3, Fantastic Four, Transformers, etc.
In Asia, the proliferation of things that are fake including fake dvds, fake perfumes, fake signature brands of shoes, bags, watches and clothes is one huge problem that affects global economy. One of the things people do to prove that they got a real item, they are given small certificates, stating that what they bought are the real things. Those from the United States, ever wonder why factories and manufacturers are closing? Not just because you are losing the jobs to Asians who are paid cheap but because people are buying these fake things, forcing manufacturers to close down. By the way, I have read in the New York Times, there are people there peddling fake signature bags, watches and clothes on the streets. Oh, if you happened to go to Asia, don’t bring these things with you when you come back to the USA. You would know why when your baggage are checked at the airport. Tourists are even deported when they bring these fake things upon entering US soils.
