I wrote a post about homeschooling our son Julian. Some friends asked me the name of the school that sponsored this homeschooling that we enrolled in. We enrolled in the home school program of Bro. Bo Sanchez and this is called Catholic Family Academy. The program is affiliated with Power Kids Academy, a private school in a nearby province, north of the Metro. This is the name of Julian’s school actually: Catholic Family Academy.

Home schooling is not as easy as pie and it is quite difficult for us since I have teaching work to do in two places. I have to juggle my schedule to be able to provide time for Julian’s “sessions” with me. But since we are always mobile, with him going with me to work, we still manage to get by. Yes, I admit we don’t have a routine to boast about which is one of the requirements, so to speak. But as long as my son is looking forward to learning new things everyday, we are all fine and dandy. Oh, at first he said “I don’t like Bagong Binhi (Filipino) and Pilipinas ang Bayan Ko (Sibika/Civics)”, he is starting to like it and reading the Filipino text just got better. He use to read them with a twang. :D

It is that dreaded time, I mean, one of the four times, of the year when I try to tell myself to control blogging and bloghopping for a few days. Instead of encoding words and thoughts and ideas, I am encoding about the human genome project, monosaccharides, DNA,Taoism, bylines, Joyful Mysteries. Yes, time for me to encode reviewers for my students who come to me for academic -related sessions. I dread these tasks, these are so tiring but I have to admit, I re-learn new things that have been long forgotten.I also learn new things that weren’t taught when I was still in grade school or high school. Now, if only they don’t have that Algebra. I’m totally stumped there like its an alien language to me. Will be back with better posts.

Every Saturday, members post photos based on a theme. The theme for July 28, 2007 is CREATIVE. Visit the Blog Roll.

This creative piece was made using not new materials but recyclable ones. You know what, when the wind blows, the horse moves around. Cool!

This is my youngest daughter Tania doing pretend play. She is a creative enough to make her own breakfast by combining different toys from different sets: the supermarket cart box and the kitchen utensils.

A creative way to end a storytelling session with my students. Diorama made by each one of them!

We may be creative in our own ways but only God can make flowers as beautiful as this. We are surrounded with many wonderful things creatively made, be it by the hands of men or created by God’s power. We should be thankful for all these things!

Oh, on second thought: Can anybody help me how to be creative with this mess we call our library? :D

Shelved under Bits and Pieces, My Thoughts

I was tagged by Tina of MyGoodFinds.Org about what was I thinking when I met my husband. Here is Tina’s post.

Here goes mine:

My husband of twelve years and I met at their house. They live in a compound where there is a row of four doors of tiny apartments on the side of their house. When I moved out of the dorm I was staying in a street away, my dorm-mates and I moved into the first door of their apartments. I have met his other siblings (all six siblings). I didn’t know they still have another brother, who is the eldest, because I was rarely in the place since I was already working full time as a preschool teacher and was doing graduate studies after work and during Saturdays. I saw him one morning supervising a brother who was parking a car in the garage. I just looked at him and thought, “Is he what they call ‘Macho‘? He is does not look like one because he is thin.” We just looked at each other and said nothing because we haven’t been introduced.

So when we were finally introduced, I was just nonchalant about it. I got to know bits and pieces about him like he plays keyboards in a band, can drive really fast and studying computer science. It was only a few days after when I learned that the Macho actually was the car he drives, a Toyota Corona Macho Machine, a mean little two-door car that packs a lot of action. It looks like this, except for the mag wheels. Still a few days later, I asked him if he would like to go with me to a concert in (then called) Ultra in Pasig City. It was a The Police concert and I got two free tickets. Guess what, when he hasn’t arrived yet at the time we were supposed to leave and impatient me, not wanting to be late for this much-awaited event, went with one of the girls I live with in the apartment. The next day, I had a rose from him and the rest as they say is history…

Angela or Gran, as she is more popularly known, tagged me to do a BIRTHDAY MEME. Belated Happy Birthday to you Angela! :)
What do I need to do?

  1. Go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday (month and day).
  2. Write down three events, 2 births, 1 holiday and tag 5 friends.
  3. There are five slots in the Birthday Meme. As you are tagged, you have to remove the name in the first slot and bump everyone up so that your name can be added to the bottom.

Okay, since this is my birth month, I will look for something on this particular day: July 14

3 Events:

1223 – In France, Louis VIII becomes King of France upon the death of his father, Philip II of France.

1698 – The Darien scheme begins with five ships, bearing about 1,200 people, departing Leith for the Isthmus of Panama.
(my birth year) 1969 – Large denominations of United States currency, namely the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 bills, are officially withdrawn from circulation by the Federal Reserve System due to “lack of use,” leaving the $100 bill as the largest unit of circulating United States currency.

2 Births:

1454Poliziano, Florentine humanist (d. 1494)

1610Ferdinando II de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany (d. 1670)

1 Holiday

France and all French dependenciesBastille Day.

I’m tagging these five blogger friends:

“Julie for taking the title “teacher” beyond the confines of school and giving me wonderful insights about life”. Thank you so much Jane of Here’s to Life for giving me this Rockin’ Girl Blogger honor.

New updates:

Rowena also gave me this award. Thank you Wenchie for always being there, for the idea of homeschooling and for the sms you send me.

Joanne who is a good friend of Sasha, also gave me this award and this was what she has to say: Teacher Julie- for being a regular commentor on Photo Hunters and I love how she presented her photos on every week’s theme full of ideas and interesting details. She’s everything: a Mentor, Leader, Instructor, Guide and Inspiration.
The Rockin’ Girl Blogger started with Roberta Ferguson last June 2007.

A recognition like this is not kept. I am going to bestow this award to five other girl bloggers who rock (in no particular order):

  1. Feng Guillermo-Brum of From Dusk till Dawn. Feng, you truly rock! Leaving your corporate office to be a stay-at-home-mom is no mean feat. Being a mother who religiously follow-through the development of your son, I salute you. You rock, girl!
  2. Auee of Kwentong Walang Kwenta. Auee, you rock too! Being able to juggle a career, motherhood and family in a cold, cold place in a foreign country.
  3. Cess of One-Twenty-one. Cess, you make me laugh and at the same time, you make me think with your quips. Beyond the light-hearted lines, you are one deep thinker.
  4. Jamie of TNchick. Who else rocks but you girl! The home of the Photo Hunters, where a wonderful community of photo-bloggers come together every Saturday to share their photos as well as their thoughts.
  5. Cheryl of Desert Diva. Cheryl, you rock. Being able to live alone (no, not really because you have Cali), being a special ed teacher and being a wonderful photographer plus being honest, you really rock.

Keep on rockin’ girls and remember to pass this award to five other girl bloggers who rock!
