Every Saturday, members post photos based on a theme. The theme for June 9, 2007 is SHOES. Visit the BLOGROLL.
The Philippines is famous for a shoe collector in the person of the former First Lady Imelda Marcos who, together with her President/husband and family, was exiled in Hawaii following a 20-year rule which includes Martial Law. She has more than three thousand pairs of shoes in a museum! These are not ordinary shoes, these are branded like Ferragamo, Givenchy and their likes. She even had a pair with dancing lights on the heels! Talk about grandiosity!
There is a city in the National Capital Region called Marikina City, known for its shoe industry. It is in this city where she has a museum for her shoes, there is also a pair there with more worth than her collection (my daughter has been there as part of their field trip). These pairs are in the Guinness World Book of Records, as written in the background. Here are the shoes, first the left and the next one is the right.

No matter how expensive and impressive these shoes are, nothing beats the shoes that my children wear and put in the sneakers place at the favorite McDonald’s, especially when they are having fun. ;)

Those shoes are HUGE! Great shot of your kids shoes. Hard to make pictures of shoes interesting isn’t it?

  • Those are the WORLD’S LARGEST SHOES according to Guinness World Book of Records. This idea of posting these shoes dawned on me a few minutes before my posting time. Had to look for the photos in the CDs. :)

Hi Julie! Great entries. I remember going to Marikina on a field trip when I was young too. Those giant shoes are perfect for this week’s theme.

I like the 3rd photo too. It’s nice when kids are having fun.

  • You should try going there again. Lots of shoes to buy. There are also lots in interesting places to visit. :)

I love that you added the shoe cubby. Seeing that full of shoes always makes me smile :)

  • We were there for breakfast so the shoe cubby wasn’t full yet. Fine by us because the children can freely move around. :)

Wow! What a great choice for today’s theme! :)
We’ve used those shoe cubbies LOTS of times.

  • Brings back memories. It is noisier in the play area when the cubby is fuller.

How big are those shoes??? Oh my gosh!!

I remember my kids putting their shoes in the cubby many, many years ago!

  • I have no idea how big those shoes are but the pair holds the Guinness Record for the World’s biggest shoes, :D

Hi julie!
I’ve been to Marikina City when I was in Manila 3 years ago! My good friend brought me there to shop for shoes. A pity I didn’t take a picture of the giant shoes. I bought many pairs of shoes then! Cheap! I love them.

  • Great choice to shop for shoes! We do buy there too. When I took that photo, I bought a pair too. Hope you come back to Manila soon so I can meet you! :)

9 Jun, 2007 @ 6:23 am

Excellent shots.
Like you I especially like the kids’ shoes sitting on the shoe keeper!

  • Shoes in the shoe keeper mean kids having fun, :)

  • Nice to know that you take care of your pairs, some last for a number of years if cared for. Thanks! :)

Thank you for the visit, those first shoes could have been the original Ronals McDonalds dancing shoes.

Cheers Mark

  • That’s what I’ve been thinking of, perfect for the McDonald’s shoe keeper, :D

I’ve been there too at Marikina where they keep Imelda’s shoes. Wow, she’s got big feet, that’s what I found out. :)
Off topic, I will post your interview to me on Sunday. Thanks by the way. :)

  • The museum I have yet to see. Looks like she has big feet, she is a big woman herself. Ok, will be checking your answers to the intreview. Hope you enjoyed answering them. :)

Oooh you’re getting to be a real photo blogger.

BTW I emailed you your ‘interview me’ questions. did you get the set? Hope you have fun answering.

  • The kids are getting the hang of my taking photos. Even they tell me to take photos of things they find interesting. The “wheels in my brain” are starting to turn the moment I saw your email. :) Thanks for the time you spent doing them.

We used to call my daughter the Imelda Marcos of shoes, but because of her other eccentricities. We did not know about the shoes. I love the children’s shoes…

  • Hahaha! She is the perfect role-model for shoe-loving people.
