Every Saturday, members post photos based on a theme. The theme for  June 1, 2007 is ART. Visit the BLOGROLL.

This is the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This is the place to watch great shows like ballet recitals, concerts, musicales and view art exhibits. A place where creativity and art are at its best. Pardon the hazy photo, this was taken inside a moving vehicle.

When do we begin to teach ART? When the children are still young, their minds at their creative best and their imaginations free. This is a photo of my Narrative/Storytelling Group doing their interpretation of the Gingerbread Man.

These are old furnitures, crafted by hands. Fine pieces, for display or for practical use.

A very, very tall art piece, handcrafted.

Dog grooming. This is an art too. :D

I love the second picture!

I love to see kids at work… Happy weekend!

  • I love it too, being a mom and a teacher at the same time. I think it is best to keep their hands and minds busy. Thanks, Salen. :)

Wow, you outdid yourself. All of your photos are wonderful examples of “art” and perfect for this week’s theme! Have a great week!

  • Could have put some more because for more, life imitates art. Everything we see around us are works of art, be they natural and animate things created by God or inanimate objects handcrafted by men. Take care! :)

teacher julie, ano yung mga brown sa ccp? parang monkey :D tagal na kasi akong di nakakadaan dyan.

is that your dog?super cute!

  • I don’t know what those things are. It might be plants that would bloom when the rains come, LOL. Might be houses of elves too. The dog? Not ours, that would not last a day in our place because we have a rather playful pitbull who loves to play with creatures smaller than him. Rough playing. Don’t misinterpret please, he is rather sweet to those small creatures and to us humans. Well, except for the neighbors’ cats of course but that’s another story.

Julie, naaliw din ako sa CCP and dog grooming photos mo. Though I passed by the area sometimes, I don’t think I notice those ‘brown things’, as Cess mentioned. :) Ano nga ba ‘yun?

  • Honestly Lynn, I don’t know what those things were. If I could only enumerate the impressions and suggestions we had during that trip, you would definitely laugh. The dog isn’t ours. It was a participant in a dog show at Tiendesitas which we visited after the PMN lunch. :)

those are all awesome!!! I’ve never been to that bldg. but I remember when I hosted Ballet Manila here at our house, they’ve mentioned that they have performance at that building…the last pic is sooo cute!!!

  • Have been there to watch Miss Saigon and other concerts (The Madrigals, I think was one of those). My daughter was able to watch a ballet and a musicale too. One of their field trips. :)

I love the kids’ pictures. Kids art makes me smile. In fact, that’s what my art picture is about too.

  • I think children’s art are wonderful because these are done without prejudice. :)

Great photos Julie. When I read Cess’ comments, I looked at the CCP photo again and she’s right, you would think there are monkeys all around the place. LoL!

It’s nice to see children making some art work. It’s a lovely way to express their creativity.

That dog is so cute! But not the type of dog for me. Baka mas mahal pa ang bayad nya sa salon compared sa akin. :)

Thanks for visiting my photo hunt earlier.

  • The CCP complex, I can’t for the life of me understand what those things are. If it was just me, hubby and the kids at that time, I would have stepped out and inspected those up close, LOL! I think grooming for these dogs cost Php 500.00 or more. Hairy dogs require lots of time for grooming, which I don’t have, :)

I love how you’ve shown us different styles of art. I mentioned the same in mine this week. With yours, I think I love the old style furniture.

Fantastic.

  • Thanks, :) I have lots of photos, especially handcrafted furnitures and art pieces but I just picked a few for these theme.

You have quite a variety of art here, Julie, it is hard to say which one is my favorite, probably the middle two. Thanks for stopping by Pollywog Creek and commenting on my father’s masterpiece! Have a wonderful weekend!

  • Thanks for the visit, Patricia. Art is everywhere, if I may say so. We just have to know how to appreciate these things around us. :)

Those photos all display the theme very well and I really like that you included the last one as dog grooming can most definitely be an art – especially when the dog won’t sit still!

  • Thanks, Linda. LOL about the dog. These dogs in the dog show, they live very pampered lives, they just sit on soft pillows with fans blowing on their faces. Like princesses waiting for their prince charming.

All of those are great examples of art! The handcrafted furniture is just amazing – beautiful! :)

  • Thanks, Dragonheart. It takes a lot of skill to do those crafts. :)

Wonderful photos! I love the gingerbread men and the dog grooming photo. Of course, I’m usually attracted to the dog pictures :)

  • Dogs are just so lovable! Who wouldn’t want to have photos of them, or with them? :)

That’s a wonderful collection to illustrate today’s theme, so varied.

  • Thanks, jmb. Arts can be appreciated in different forms that’s why I chose a lot of photos. :)

I love all the different pieces! Especially the dog!!
Thanks for sharing!

  • The dog. Grooming and prepping a dog for a show is an art itself, :)

I like the furniture. Such amazing craftsmanship! Thanks.

  • The furnitures, yes, these are handcrafted which make them even more special. :)

I remember CCP as having a huge fountain in the middle. I wonder if it’s still there and functioning…

Aw, the cute dog has a coiffed hair! Buti pa siya… Hihihi…

  • I think the fountain is still there, they use it only at night when there are performances. The dogs have their own hair stylists! Grabe…:D

Looking at the gingerbread coloring photo reminds me of a drawing competition we organised for little kids several years back. And few of them colored each limbs of the pants with different color :D

  • Some of the children did that too, including my daughter, one color for each of the limbs! That was fun. No need to tell them it doesn’t look good because it is their work after all. :D

That column looks amazing.

  • It does, :) Been wondering what tree they got it from or if it came from a real tree. It is made of wood.

TeacherJulie, you’ve made me long for the beautiful handicrafts of the Philippines! BTW what is that stuff on the lawn in front of the CCP? I haven’t been there in many years.

  • Hope you would come by to visit the country soon! There are a lot of good places to shop, have fun and relax. Honestly, I don’t know what those stuff are in front of CCP grounds. We were in a moving vehicle with relatives and my eyes have 300+ grade plus I was not wearing my glasses then. If it was just my family, surely I would have gone down to inspect, :D . I’m curious too.

Nice selection of photos.:)

My youngest son also likes to draw. He has these books of how to draw your favorite characters, etc. Now he thinks he wants to be an artist when he grows up. :)

  • Thanks, Niceheart. We have books like that too, made by Japanese animators. Amazing how children can draw things according to how they see them.  It is also nice if parents like you are supportive of their children’s interests.

You went to Tiendesitas, teacher Julie :) Nice the hand-crafted items u can find there ano?

Happy Monday po! Sorry been too busy with the domain and money-making programs kaya di nakakadalaw :)

  • Yes, Tiendesitas is nice but we just go there to look at the pets, not really buying anything. The children love the pet village as well as the antique village. Thanks for the visit Sha, excited to see you soon :D
