What kind of world do you want? This is the title of the song by Five for Fighting.

The song starts with:

Got a package full of wishes, a Time Machine, a magic wand, a globe made out of gold.

And ends with:

What kind of world do you want, think anything, let’s start at the start, build a masterpiece, History starts now, be careful what you wish for, Start now.

Nothing earth shattering with the lyrics. The beat of the song is rather good and easy to the ears. So why am I blogging about this? Because http://whatkindofworlddoyouwant.com/ is the first music video site that gives back. One of the charities it supports is the Autism Speaks.org.

Click here for the complete lyrics.

Now that you have seen the links (I just hope you did) I would like to ask you, dear friends: “What kind of world do you want?”

Hi Teacher Julie..very nice song. My 4 year old likes them ever since they did a song for Shrek2.:)

Speaking of kids, I guess they pretty much dictate what I want my world to be. My world is “them” and it has to be something that will envelope them in goodness, happiness, safety, and love. I know it’s a longshot but hey, that’s what Mom’s are here for..di ba.

  • I agree with you. Our world is “them” but of course, we have to be careful to fall into the trap of them dictating what they want. We have to set rules too, to be able to help them know that not everything is about them. Mom has to have her own time for herself too. Thanks for the visit. :)

hi teacher julie!
looks like we belong to the same world of teaching. but mine is not just limited to the special ones but all under INCLUSIVE Education. it’s not easy but the challenge is great. that everyone has a gift. how we stimulate them to be functional members of the community is the real challenge. God bless you!

  • I do mostly individual sessions though I also have an informal group setting. Challenge is great and developing the gift in everyone is even a harder challenge. I too, aim for them to be able to function well in their communities. After all, their parents can’t always be there for them.

I guess I’d go with a world such as John Lennon sings about in his song ‘Imagine.’

As an afterthought, there is a world inside … that need not be affected by the chaos outside.

I hope that doesn’t sound too highfallutin’. hee

  • Yes, truly, there is a world inside which only belongs to us. But sometimes, even that inside world we have can be affected by chaos, even if we don’t want to. Hard to really try to “control” what is happening outside although it does not necessarily mean we all have to conform.
