Last Wednesday, May 23, 2007, Camp Teepee, the Storytelling/Narrative group that I teach (with T. Joy, an occupational therapist) discussed about Herman the Helper book.
Who is Herman the Helper? Herman the Helper is a young octopus who loves to lend a helping hand (or should I say tentacle) to the different sea creatures that he meets. After the story, the children spent some time doing a diorama of an underwater scene with Herman as the main attraction. We also discussed about the different things they can do to help in the house as well as in school. We sure did learned about helping others that day. How? Because we read about Herman helping others without discriminating. If only people would do so like Herman, perhaps this world would be a better place to live in.
Below is Julian’s diorama.
