A multidisciplinary team is a group of professionals with different areas of training as well as expertise.
These professionals will work with the family for the evaluation, assessment and planning of programs necessary to help the child with special needs. As a group, they know about speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, special education settings, as well as issues related to medical aspect of the child’s development. Together, these professionals will work with the family to make plans and develop programs that will identify the needs and strengths of the child. Then they will collaborate their programs and plans so that each and every program will complement what each and every therapist, teacher and family members are doing.
The areas of development that will be given emphasis, more or less, are the following: cognitive development, physical development, adaptive development, communication and social skills, and emotional development.
