Arranged marriages is nothing new in Asia. In fact, it has been a tradition for parents to arrange marriages of their children with other parents’ children long before they grow up or even long before they are born. These are done for various reasons. One of the most common reason for arranged marriages is for economic reasons. Either parents are both business partners who intend to keep the business going by having their children marry each other, or maybe the groom’s family has more lands and goods to offer to make the other family better off. Whatever the reason, we might think that such practice has declined due to the changing perspective of women and also because they are now more educated.
