Shelved under Autism, special education
Autism Risk Rises with Age of Father. Click the title to read the article.Developmental problems of children have always been “blamed” on many factors, including the age of the mother. Now this article comes along with a different angle. The paragraph below however, for me, is one of the highlights in the article. I do not really mean to douse any parents’ hopes that their children would be cured but on the other hand, there are interventions that can be done to help them cope and be functional/independent.

A wide variety of interventions are increasingly available for autistic children, and early behavioral interventions have been said to help with outcomes and functioning. There is, however, no cure for the disorder, and scientists are not sure about its biological roots.

Shelved under Bits and Pieces, My Thoughts
I’m not a tennis fan. Though top-seeded names of tennis players names are familiar to me and I can name a few of the familiar ones, I am not really a fan. I read this article about Andre Agassi’s last game in the US Open and I was moved. Click here to see what I mean. Now, this stuff is what makes a person a champion, a real sportsman in its real sense. Winners do not give up. They fight to the end even if it means victory is not in sight. We always say that sports champions are supposed to quit when they are on top of their careers so as not to make themselves a laughing stock if they still continue to fight with less skills due perhaps to physical limitations because of age and injuries and in the long run, lose their titles to amateurs. But on the other hand, this stuff that made them champions in the first place, giving their best despite problems, are what made them who they were, champions, winners. As people always say, its not about winning the game, it’s about how you played the game and gave your best.

High School Musical

I don’t know what it is about this Disney Channel original movie “High School Musical” that makes it a hit among the young people today. As I am writing this entry, my two little ones are still up, watching the call back audition of Troy and Gabriella, singing and dancing their hearts out! They’ve watched the DVD three times or maybe more, since we got a copy last Thursday night.

If its the storyline, maybe. Though the theme has an all-time theme of proving oneself against all odds, it is still a new (read: tried and tested) concept to the now youngsters viewing the movie. For those ages more advanced than its intended audience, the theme/plot is predictable: boy meets girl, strikes a friendship though they are very much different from each other, they want to prove to the adults that they can be different , along the way there are persons against what they want in the form of their parents, peers, and an unlikable character who likes to stir things up for the protagonists. In the end, they triumph, they prove to others they their perception of them was wrong, the unlikable character will get a redeeming scene and everything is well and good as it is supposed to be in the beginning. How’s that?

If its the singing, sure, the songs are easy on the ear and easier to sing. The singers are not that very good sounding, sorry Troy, your voice seems not so manly to my discerning ears. Click here in order to hear them sing.

The dance moves are danceable. The music has a wonderful beat which will make one to get up and dance.

I don’t know really, I’m not a movie critic. What I know is that I enjoyed the movie and my children enjoyed it too. Do I have to say I can hear them laughing now, as they are watching the championship game. Also they’ve watched the call back audition four times. In fact, they call Troy and Gabriella as Tatay and Nanay. LOL!
