Shelved under Bits and Pieces, My Family
Saturday was Ate’s special day because it was her 11th birthday. We were invited to her Ninong Fritz’s daughter Lyn’s 10th birthday. We went there and the kids had a blast. When we had to leave around 5:30 because we offered a mass for her, she did something that surprised us. She told Lyn’s mother (this was an account by hubby who heard her) that she would have wanted to stay so that she could join the pabitin game and get one of the swords there. I think she even went on to explain that she needs a sword because she has a class presentation wherein her role is that of a Datu’s princess.
Well, she got the sword all right. The gold one.
I asked her why and how she got the nerve to do what she did, she didn’t know these people well because they live in Chicago, although we are like families in a sense.
She said so that we won’t have to buy one and she was sure she would be getting one of those swords during the game, which she won’t be able to, because we had to go.
Wow! If it was me at that age, I wouldn’t, couldn’t possibly have done what she did.
