Yesterday we went “real estate window shopping”. We went to Nusa Dua in Cavite and Leisure Farms in Batangas. I think this is the “in” thing in real estate, building sustainable communities, encouraging city folks to appreciate what nature has to offer at the same time reaping some rewards for tilling the soil. My husband joked that if we will try to live this simple life, perhaps we would not survive because I don’t have a green thumb and he doesn’t have the patience to work with plants, specifically farming.

Both are very good investments (if one has extra Php2-6M). The kids were ecstatic. They roamed around the places where we were shown. They were happy. Perhaps we will be able to afford to have a place such as these in the near future. Perhaps I will be able to discover that I do have a green thumb after all.

Being a teacher is hard work. Teaching doesn’t only mean making others learn from the teacher. Teaching enables a teacher to learn from the students, from the learning process itself and from within. A teacher has to be a role model of: good behavior, positive spirit, kind heart, creativity, eagerness to learn, and willingness to make sacrifices to be able to accomplish goals set.

Being a teacher, I have a wealth of experiences and accomplishments and failures too. From my students I have viewed the world with fresh eyes and free spirit. From them I have learned to be humble enough to appreciate and hone my skills which they need in order to learn. From them I have tried and have been trying to match my teaching skills to their individually different learning styles and personalities. From them, I have heard, seen and learned children’s points of view, opinions, observations and different interpretations of the (adult) behavior of people around them. From them I have learned to appreciate the simple joys in life. From them I have learned to know how it is to want to accomplish and learn things that are quite difficult to master. From them I have learned confidence in knowing that whatever goals one is trying to achieve, no matter how hard, patience, perseverance and prayers will definitely help.

Being a teacher is also a big sacrifice. There are times when helping a student hurdle through all his/her learning difficulties become emotionally taxing. Teachers oftentimes go beyond the call of duty to make sure that students gain understanding and proper application of knowledge and skills gained.
